Lost medical insurance
Lost medical insurance
Hello.
I have lost my job and along with it I have no insurance. Where or how do you get inexpensive replacement equipment. ie filters, mask parts. I went to my current supplier and they are outrageous for cash and carry.
Thanks

I don't know when you lost your job (Sorry to hear that) but if it was in the current month, chances are that your coverage will continue till the end of the month. If that's the case, can you stock up as much as you are allowed? It could help in the short term.

Current thread you might want to check:

I buy nearly everything from cpap.com: Six filters there costs the same as ONE locally!
My insurance is crappy--huge copays; worthless once I got the machine.

Try Craigslist in your area.
Also, what do you need? Someone here may have it and no longer have a need for it.

Are you aware of COBRA coverage? It costs money, but you can get coverage. You have to act quickly after losing your job and they LOVE to scam you into missing a deadline and not getting coverage.

Re: Lost medical insurance
I have insurance and it's about as good as having no insurance - they cover everything except what actually happens - that they NEVER pay for. For example, i went to a pain clinic for hip arthritis that they admit is so calcified that there is no space between the femur and the hip. When i went in they said you need to give a urine sample - i did - doc says the only thing he can do for me is a cortisone injection in the hip - i had it, it did Nothing, now i get the bill from the urine test - 12 HUNDRED dollars - it's a drug test to prove that I'm not a drug seeking addict - and i'm not even getting any pain killing meds from this doc or any other. Insurance won't pay since it's not treatment related. After having lived in England, I really really can't understand why americans tolerate this system - we spend more than 3 times on health care per capita than the brits do = and leave 50 million with no insurance and probably another 100 million with crap insurance that you don't realize is crap until you need it. You know how your doctor's office has the 6 women working behind the desk talking on phones and staring at computer screens - in england your doctor's office consists of the doctor and a nurse - no other staff since they don't need an army to chase down insurance claims - US used to lead the world in efficiency now we are proud of our third world infrastructure. I pay $800 a month and was told here on cpaptalk that that was my problem that i'm paying too little, I need to pay about $1200 a month for decent insurance - $24,000 a year for decent health coverage. Prior to the sleep apnea and arthritis diagnosis i got THIS year, i've been in perfect health = 30 year vegan, non-smoker, exerciser, and not-overweight. How many Americans have $24,000 per year of disposable income? each and every year until they hit 65, when if the right gets its way, you'll have no medicare either. God save the Queen! funny how they care about keeping me alive more than my own country does and ironic since i'm of Irish decent .
Search Craigslist in your area using cpap in the search engine and you'll often find new stuff at a really great price - I got a brand new s9 resmed vpap with 0 hours on it for $699 - it's $1995 reduced at cpap.com or 1800cpap.com'

Re: Lost medical insurance
That's the sad part of thinking that employer sponsered health insurance is so valuable. When you can't work it's gone. There is a big difference between being hungry and being sick. That's why a national health care plan is important.

Re: Lost medical insurance
I have what would be considered by most to be very good insurance, but under my DME benefit they do not cover any "A" codes: masks, mask parts, hoses, filters etc. so I get some of those at cpap.com and others at eBay.

Re: Lost medical insurance
A couple of friends work at Sam's club/Wal Mart.
Their insurance covers a sleep study. PERIOD!
No freakin' equipment, whatsoever. Utterly ridiculous!
