Oooooops! Will my machine be ok??

Post by Daisy004 » Mon Nov 19, 2012 9:01 am

OMG last night about 4am there was an almighty crash!...I pulled the whole Cpap machine off the bedside cabinet and it crashed on the floor between the cabinet and my bed, water eveywhere. I turned the machine upside down and the water ran out ok..the hose got filled somehow so I shook the water out and left it to air dry. I left the machine open to air dry too. Tried it this am and it seems to be blowing ok. Apart fromthe obvious mini heart attack you get from the noise, you think it will be ok? Has anyone ever done this before?

I did with my PR S1 ... Still works fine!

If it got water where it was not suppose to be (electrical) ... It would have already shorted out! So ... I'd say it is fine.

I'd also hook it down if your an "active sleeper"!

My night table is made of wood, and underneath my machine I have placed a piece of rubber mesh (you can buy at Lowes or Target etc by the yard). It prevents my machine from moving AT ALL.

With a 6 foot hose I would probably have to fall off the opposite side of the bed from where my machine is to move it...

Since it is still working your outlook is great. You can also force air into the machine to facillitate air drying by the exhaust on a vaccum or a hair drier. I agree; since your seem to be restless at nite. tie that sucker down somehow...tape, weights. You can also rig a tie for your hose to the headboard so the the howse will not yank on the machine

If it's working, I'd probably run it as much as I can to try and dry it out quickly. Only while I was nearby, though. I wouldn't leave it running when I was away at work.

And figure out a way so that you can't pull it off the table. Tie the hose down or tie the machine down. Put it in a drawer. You're going to be at risk 365 days a year. Every time you get up, every time you roll over, every time you do something near the machine, etc.

What you might want to do is place the machine on the other side of your bedside lamp. That way if you pull too hard you'll just disconnect the mask from the hose, not the machine from the top of the table.

Some machines, like the Intellipap, have a humidifier tank that is spill-proof. Others, like the S9 series, not so much.

I hate to even ask why you have an electrical usage meter next to your bed?

This is where a hose buddy comes in handy. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/HoseBu ... ystem.html

I agree with putting something under it to stabiize it, sounds like a great idea. In the beginning my first machine was pulled off alot. I now sleep with 12ft hose, so no longer any 'thump' in the night. You might want to unplug it when you leave the house for the first week or so, just to be sure electrically.

This machine holder has a strap that goes over the machine, holding it in place.

I'd rather screw an old belt to my nightstand than risk drowning my blower.

I'm guessing that's just a mock meter made into a lamp. I have one of those also lying around somewhere. They're pretty cool. I think the meter actually spins whilst the lamp is on or something like that.

My PR System one 550 took a tumble last spring and while there wasn't as much water invasion as you experienced, it still works fine to this day.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

The PRS1 "dry box" water chamber is really neat if you look at how it prevents water spillage back into the machine. It really makes it a lot more difficult for water to go back into the air intake. Play with it over the sink sometimes. Water will pour out the "exit" hole, but it's hard to get it to go back up the air intake.

Of course, it's still a bad idea to turn it over.

That meter lamp is awesome!

I probably should look into a way to secure my unit down now. A quick idea is to get a small plexiglass sheet, hot glue gun the machine to plexiglass. L bracket plexiglass to back of nightstand.
