Newbie- Resscan #'s
Hi, I'm new to this so, sorry for my silly questions. I've been on a VPAP S for a month now settings are 7 and 10. I started with a nasal mask, but had too much leakage so I switched to a full mask. My 30 day avg. is Apnea index 4.1, Obstructive 0.8, Central 2.5, Hypopnea 1.0, AHI 5.1. It is my understanding that AHI of 5 or less is good. My concern is the centrals- I don't really understand what one is or why it seems to be so bad, the other night I averaged 9. Sometimes I don't sleep all night with it on, so I'm assuming my avg. ahould be a little higher than what it is. What is the # in the box above the "event". I was told that my AHI was 36 during my sleep study. Thanks for any help

The number at the top of the event flag is the duration in seconds. A central just means that the airway was open and there was no effort to breathe as opposed to an obstructive where the airway is blocked, or collapsed.
5.0 is typically the threshold for an apnea diagnosis, but numbers aren't everything. The big thing is how you feel.
It sounds like you're doing pretty good for the first month, but why aren't you sleeping with it all the time?

Good morning Liz, thanks for the response. I do put it on every night, but sometimes I wake up for whatever reason and I can't fall back asleep so I either reset it to start the ramp again or I just take it off. I'm averaging 5 hrs of use a night, so I have had some less than 4 hrs and some more than 4hrs. I also think I'm doing fairly well with wearing a mask that I wasn't born with strapped over my face! I don't really feal that much more rested, but I do notice that I don't remember that many dreams. It sounds like it takes some a few months to notice a difference. Thanks again
