Eye drops for dry eyes

Post by Sydneygirl » Thu Nov 15, 2012 12:18 pm

I have been experiencing dry eyes after 3 weeks of full face mask. Just talk to the eye doctor and he said to use something called
Genteal. Its a gel you use every night before bed. It will protect your eyes. Just in case anybody is interested and has the same problem. I am using the humidifier but still are having the problem.

The Genteal gel for dry eyes will do the trick....there are several of us that use it when needed. I was using it morning and night until my eyes felt better then just at night....now by using the Respcare Hybrid I now longer need it at night as the air does not blow into my eyes.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Sydneygirl:
I tried several full face masks before I found one that fit my face well enough to stop eye-drying leaks.
Gel eye drops are helpful, but I actually had to wear swim goggles to keep my eyes moist,
at least until I found a full face mask that really FIT.
Mask liners can help, too; check Rem-zzz's for disposables or Pad-a-Cheek for washable.

When my eyes get try they look weird and get really small. Thanks for sharing but do I need to consult a physician for it?

Lookin' at your avitar, I can see hope it would be difficult to find a mask. Maybe Resmed or Respironics needs to make Froggie' masks.

Yes, but...

I've been using Genteal Gel every night for 2 years now, and it does very little to help me. I have another appointment next week with my ophthalmologist where I anticipate discussing nasolacrimal plugs. I've already tried eye patches, different drops, different gels, different pillows, etc., etc. with no relief. I literally live on drops through the day.

Just throwing this out there because a gel used at night won't necessarily cure the problem in 100% of the cases.

I like the Refresh PM gel for bedtime, and Systane Balance drops during the day as needed. If I use them proactively, I don't have a problem.

My eye dr told me that by the time you feel that your eyes are dry and sore, the damage is done. You have to use the drops frequently during the day to keep them from drying out.

My Ophthalmologist suggested this:

But I continue instead with my method which is:

wash my hand with soap and faucet water, then wet my two fingers with the faucet water and rub the water on my lid closed eyes.

I do it in the mornings and also if I get up thru the night to pee.

It works well for me.

I go for eye exams every 6 months. No problems.

Many factors besides airflow from the mask may contribute to dry eyes.
Your ophthmalologist may be able to help you.
Do this first--that, and try to get a better-fitting mask.
