This question is for my husband. He has the puritan breeze mask. At first it hurt his nose so bad that he was taking it off in the middle of the night without even knowing it.
I came here and got instructions on how to adjust it and it worked. Thanks...
But now he has a new problem. If it doesn't hurt his nose, it leaks and breaks the seal and he can't breathe. If the seal works and he can breathe then it hurts his nose (think bruising not chafing). There doesn't seem to be a middle ground with this thing.
Can you recommend a new mask that he can try? Or do you have suggestions for how to fix this one? Would some new pillows help in a larger size? Thats the only thing he hasn't done yet.
Go ahead and give me some recommendations because I think he needs at least one more mask just to have an extra one to rotate with. We can only afford one more.
Thanks.
Oh one more thing. I was searching old posts and did find that how you sleep determines what you should need. He sleeps on his side and sometimes on his back (yes he flops) also his nares are slotted (thinking this might make this type of mask hard to deal with for him.

breeze
What do you mean by "breaks the seal"?
A properly adjusted Breeze should not have much pressure on the nose at all and does not touch the lips.
It takes a bit of patience to get the adjustmant right.
Sometimes it is necessary to bend the metal part if it is too tight after maximum adjustment and it is still too tight.
pm me and I will try to walk you thru it-
maybe a call?

Karen,
While kind of new at this myself two things come to mind that might help.
First off you should fill out the profile on your screen name so every one can see the type of equipment you are using this will help people give you better suggestions. Also what are his pressure settings?
The hospital where I had my sleep study has a "cpap class" where I will get to try on a lot of different masks and have a doctor help me find the best one.I have high hopes for this. You could check around your area for something similar.
good luck

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body totally worn out and screaming,WOO HOO what a ride!

By breaking the seal...my husband means the Breeze is essentially falling away from his nose then he gets this hissing sound and it wakes him up (and me too). He keeps having to reposition it all night long (he tosses and turns). If he gets the Breeze tight enough for it to stay on then it hurts his nose. Seems to be no middle ground.
The place where he did his sleep study only offered 2 masks. 1 made him extremely claustrophobic so the Breeze was what was left.

I seems he might need larger pillows.
cpap.com also sells a size gauge for the Breeze about $5, and that might be worth your while to get.
The nose get bruised when the shell is pulled up too tight against it.

Nasl pillows are great but they're not for everyone. He may do better with a Comfortlite 2 with a simple cushion.
