i feel so refreshed!

Post by sleepnasta » Wed Nov 14, 2012 8:47 am

last night was night 5 on the cpap and the second night that i had it on all night. i only slept 6 hours which would normally leave me feeling like a zombie in the morning. but this morning i woke up feeling strangely rested. is this what it's like to feel human?!! i'm sure i'll have set backs along the way but this is putting me in a good mood because i feel like i can finally sleep like a normal person and feel rejuvenated in the morning

I am very glad for you. On my initial 2-3 weeks, I woke each day from what I refer to as a deep state of sleep. Something I haven't experienced in 13 years or so. I haven't been able to achieve that since, but I am no longer tired as I use to be. A lot of other side effects like being disinterested in many things and unusual grumpiness vanished. Not to mention not waking up at night anywhere from 2-10 times (that I can remember) and just being bored trying to fall back asleep or frustrated by not being able to do so. The alarm clock will actually wake me up and not the other way around anymore.

Don't expect it to always be like that, but yes, the difference can be amazing for some people. For me, it's a complete 180 from what I feel like normally. I believe I've had sleep apnea my entire life but was only diagnosed a few years ago and only got a machine a few days ago. To get the machine through my Medicare system I had to rent one for a month and record the data. That month was like a revelation to me. I had never known any different and suddenly my mood improved, I wasn't depressed, aggressive, exhausted, I could focus on things, I was eating a third of what I normally would and wasn't feeling hungry all the time, I was exercising regularly because I FELT like getting up and doing stuff instead of barely being able to drag myself between the couch, computer and bed.

Glad to see you've seen a marked benefit and hope that you always remember this moment because a lot of people seem to forget and give up on therapy. So even if you start feeling like the mask is a hassle and it's all not worth it, remember how you felt without it, and how you feel now, and keep up the therapy

Congratulations! I've been on CPAP for 12 years & it does make a difference. I would strongly suggest you get your data & learn to interpret it, that will help this wonderful therapy work for you, possibly even better than first few nights. Your machine you list is data capable & many wise ones here can help you with that.
Welcome,
Jen

There's almost always ups and downs in this game, but I'm very glad you are enjoying a nice victory. Congrats.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

congrats! I'm 4 months into it and I've never felt so tired in my life - i maybe had one morning where i felt OK upon waking with CPAP. So far, my worst day with untreated sleep apnea is better than my best day on CPAP - hopefully i'll get the hang of it - your success is encouraging!

Sorry to hear you're having such a tough go of it johnthomasmacdonald. Perhaps you should ask the members some questions. Everybody has their ups and downs, maybe someone on the forum can throw some light on your situation

I'd like to share something which might somehow be related. When I first started using the machine, after a few days, I noticed I didn't have a good "feeling" when waking up even though I slept throughout the night. Looking at my machine, I noticed the pressure was somewhere between 6 to 8 instead of constant 11 (I guess somehow it switched to an APAP mode or something). Even though I didn't wake up like I always do without a CPAP, there was a major difference in how I felt as compared to my constant pressure of 11. I don't know why/how this is, but perhaps suboptimal pressure settings still affect the sleep architecture even if you're not waking up.
