Encore: leaks interfere with AHI calculation?

Post by blake » Tue Apr 11, 2006 6:25 pm

I am a little confused about how Encore Pro calculates apnea and hypopneas (Remstar Pro2 CPAP). I understand it is based on a specified decrease in flow rate (ex 50%) over a specific time (ex.> 10s). What does it use as a "baseline" flow rate?

For example. I am having problems with leaks, so flow is intermittently very high (during the leak). After the leak is fixed by mask repositioning, isn't the machine going to report an "apnea" since the flow rate has dropped?

The thing you need to be concerned with is getting the leaks under control. Do that and problem solved. A large leak raises AHI...............
