I hate my CPAP!!! audiobooks

Post by jen4700 » Thu Nov 08, 2012 11:24 am

I listen to audiobooks before going to sleep. I set the sleep timer on the audible app to 45 min. I'm really picky about the books I read and the ones I read I really get into. With my CPAP and the SW Elan I fall asleep in five minutes!!! grrr I don't get ANY reading done!!!

But I love the sleep I'm getting.

I don't do audiobooks, but I do read a lot, so understand your frustration. However my DH laughs because I can't even get through an episode of Jeopardy before starting to doze off - it has taken me 3 nights to get through one episode on a few occasions.

Cheers,
xena

I listen to XM Book Radio after masking up.
I set my Pink Inno to record the books I don't want to miss, should I fall asleep.
Too bad they don't make a comparable unit any more--100 hours is awesome.
Now, they are lucky to have a receiver that will do over 10.

Just think of it as getting the chance to enjoy the story over and over and over and over ...

LOL! I do the same with podcasts on Stitcher. I never make it past about 3 minutes, though I set the timer for about 20, because sometimes silence before I'm deeply asleep will wake me.

Before CPAP, for all my life since childhood, it would take at least 30 minutes to fall alseep and often as long as a few hours.

Strange, isn't it?

I know what you mean about the silence waking you up!

Yes, I'm enjoying the same 5 min over and over! Luckily the audible app has bookmarks. So I set the bookmark before I close my eyes. I really enjoyed relaxing at night and getting lost in the story before I fell asleep.

I may try that. So far my only exposure to audio books has been my mothers awful vampire /werewolves hot heaving thighs and boobs books which I avoid by wearing ear plugs.
It always takes me at least an hour to fall asleep.

There is a website for free audiobooks: http://podiobooks.com/. I've read some really good books from this site, but limited selection.

I've been a member of http://www.audible.com/ for years. $15/mo gives you one credit per month can save you hundreds of $$ over a year subscription. They have tens of thousands of books to choose from!! fiction, non-fiction, even plays and speeches.

I don't know what it is, but I find it easier to fall asleep to spoken word content than to music.

You might check to see if your local Library is a member of R.E.A.D.S. (Regional eBook & Audiobook Download System). You can download audiobooks online with your library card. It allows you to keep several books checked out for up to 3 weeks in some places. There is no cost, except if they charge for the library card. You have to install some software to use it. My local library has a pretty decent selection (4 or 5 thousand) to choose from. I usually listen to mine during the day, while I'm working.

My wife would make fun of me, I used to watch, The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross on PBS, and every time I would watch it, he would put me to sleep with his soft voice!

As long as it's not too loud, almost any sound beats the heck out of listening to tinnitus until I fall asleep.

Actually before I had an ipod and audiobooks the doc told me to fall asleep with the tv on so my tinnitus didn't keep me awake. I know! Really bad sleep hygiene but it was a necessity.

Talking soothes me, too. I like podcasts, except certain ones like Cartalk that have jangling music interludes. Most NPR stuff is great for sleeping, then I listen again while awake.

This Anerican Life had a story about a woman named "Janice" who raised a chimp like a human bring. They started out by calling her on the phone. You hear the phone ring twice, and when it picked up, Ira Glass says "Janice? Janice". I swear to goodness that in my sleep I'd wake up fumbling for the phone and going "hello?, Hello?" With my ff mask and macine on. And it happened more than once. LOL! Only fellow CPAP ERs would understand.

I listen to my Zune and I usually fall alseep before the 3rd song is done playing. Funny how that is. I also have one of those machines that play nature sounds like rain and summer nights and ocean waves and so on. I haven't used that in so long but I love it. I just haven't used it in awhile so I may plug that in tonight. Happy sleeping, Huggies, Fayu
