Any Dallas-area recommendations for sleep doctor and DME?

Post by wildflowertx » Wed Nov 07, 2012 1:43 am

Greetings! I'm new to the forum (duh) and also to the official world of sleep apnea. I've been reading posts and wikis and best of's for the past couple of days, and truly appreciate all the information that is shared by the forum members. I'm on a couple of other unrelated forums and know how much goes into just spending time participating and helping out, whether it's a hobby or a life-altering/threatening condition.

My quick background: after discussions with my primary doc on sleep problems I've had for a couple of years, she sent me for a 2-part sleep study last month (the regular sleep and the CPAP sleep). No real surprise: the official results and diagnosis, which I received from her on Monday, is obstructive sleep apnea. I didn't think to get a copy of the reports from her though (which in retrospect was pretty stupid; I also have liver disease and am used to getting copies of every report and blood test for the last 15 months or so since that was diagnosed - d'oh!).

The twist is that the sleep center where the studies were done said that my insurance does not cover equipment sold by them, even though it covered the studies; they don't have an equipment contract for whatever reason (my cynical side says not enough money... ). So they were going to send my info to a DME called "Mid-Cities", which my research shows to probably be Mid-Cities Home Equipment. Thing is, since the sleep center folks are the ones sending the info, I don't really know who the prescription is coming from -- a doctor at the sleep center, I guess? I'm thinking I need to get my own specific sleep doctor in place, after reading posts in general here, on the theory that I'm going to need check-ins in the future, potential future prescriptions, etc.

So, along those lines, and in case Mid-Cities is not a good DME (I haven't actually dealt with them yet, other than a voice mail that they got the info from the sleep center and will call "in a couple of days" after verifying info and contacting insurance and whatever) and finally getting to the point --

Can anyone in the Dallas area recommend a good sleep doctor and/or DME, preferably in the downtown or further south into Ellis County area? I'll take other areas, but those are easier. As for doctor, I'm going to check out Baylor Medical Center since they have other good docs, but would take any specific names/places.

Thanks for reading my long-winded blather, and I look forward to participating more as I (1) have more questions, (2) get my equipment, (3) etc.

bump
We do this to push forgotten questions up to the top, where they will be seen.
As you can see, I can be of no other help.
Our hosts, cpap.com, is in Hutchins, I understand they have a store front.

For a sleep doctor, I see Dr. Ostranksy in Southlake:

He's been great to me and the people I've sent to him.

He works with a company called Medigy. I got the machine and first couple of masks from them. I've gotten the remainder of my supplies from cpap.com.

Good luck!

CF - thanks for the bump, it's appreciated (it was too early to be impatient enough to bump it myself, I thought ). I've looked around some on cpap.com but not enough to see that they are based in and have a store front in Hutchins! I'll have to look further, Hutchins isn't far away at all.

MD - thanks for the link and recommendation. Southlake (and their other location on S. Hulen) is a little further than I'd like to drive coming from Ellis County, but a positive recommendation is important and I'll definitely keep him in mind.

Any other info/reccys welcomed!
