Head Cold?

Post by oldgearhead » Sun Apr 09, 2006 4:13 pm

I've caught a bad head cold. When I tried to do CPAP last night, I gave up
after a while because I felt like I wasn't getting enough air into my lungs.
was this a 'real' lack of volume or was my body just thinking up excuses to pull of the mask? I was using nasal pillows.

Do most of continue as usual with a head cold? Do you use a different mask
or sleepimg position.

When conjested with a nasal interface you are out of options, with a Full Fase Mask life goes on, so I choose FF and it's bad sides I live with, but I can use it every night. Jim

head cold

Post by Maryb » Sun Apr 09, 2006 5:01 pm

I use a breeze with nasal pillows and I just got over a head cold.
I used the breeze throughout the whole cold. Here is what I did:
at night before "hooking up", I blew my nose & worked on clearing out at least one nostril.
Then I put the nasal pillows in and turned on the machine. I let a few breaths go out through my mouth and lo and behold (!), the nostril(s) cleared even more.
Plus the extra humidity of the air blowing through my nose helped my congestion.
In the morning I rinsed my nose/sinuses out with salt water. I found that once the machine was off in the morning, my nose and sinuses started to drain like crazy. But it was a small price to pay in order to keep my therapy going. And the cold was over in the usual amount of time.
Good luck!

I developed pneumonia the very week i was starting cpap......between the congestion and coughing, I also could not use my nasal pillows. I just sat in the recliner for about a week to sleep..........not ideal, but better than the alterative.
