CPAP Device Survey

Post by UniversityStudent » Fri Oct 26, 2012 11:09 am

Hello everyone we are a University based group studying sleep apnea and are conducting a study to better understand the specific needs of CPAP users in order to develop a more user friendly device.
Your responses to the questions in the link below will allow for a better understanding of patient's needs.

It is my opinion that some very capable devices do exist;
the problem is getting them into the hands of patients.
Exhale relief and ramp have been around for quite a while,
but the feature that too many new patients get ROBBED of is efficacy data.
Too many new patients are being sent home with bare-bones devices that
do NOT provide basic feedback, including AHI, Open Apnea, and leak rates.
As a diabetic who checks blood sugar daily, I cannot fathom why anyone would be denied
the knowledge of how well their CPAP is working.

I'm not sure a university would have this kind of a survey, with so little information provided about who is doing the study, the purpose of the study, etc. Universities' have to go through review boards to have their studies approved and there's usually more to the informed consent process than just "click on this link".

I assure you I am. This is for a senior project. I am just looking for feedback from people suffering from sleep apnea and what difficulties they have with their machine or perhaps positive words to say about their experience.

This sounds rather fishy to me. What university? I work for a university and this is not how we do things in my department.

If you really want information, do some research. (yes; WORK)
Reading the locked threads at the beginning of the board index would be a good start.
A blind survey (which appears to be more of a "phishing" expedition) is a very lazy way
to learn anything useful in the way you claim it to be.

What university? Which professor is supervising this project and in what department is he/she in?

University students seem to happen by here now and then to post a link to a survey that the STUDENT is doing, not so much the University itself, as I understand it.

I believe it is a class assignment of sorts, to post a survey.

If you enjoy that sort of thing and don't give sensitive info, I don't see how it hurts anything.

But hey, that's just me.

I stopped when I realized that some of the questions don't make sense.

Do you replace the straps on your CPAP machine every 6 months?

I don't know about you, but my CPAP machine doesn't have straps. I'm sure they meant "mask" there.

Please rank the 5 BIGGEST problems you experience while using your CPAP machine.
( 1 being the most severe to 5 )

There is a list of 12 items each with a pulldown menu that goes from 1-12. HUH?

No thank you.

I filled it out, but it does seem to be a marketing survey.
And yes, question 21 definitely isn't set up for fewer than 12 problems.

If the assignment was for creating a lucid, informed survey, maybe not an "A" student.

Yes thank you jnk you hit it on the head. I go to Cal State San Marcos. This is not a "University Project" as everyone seems to be steering towards, as jnk added it is merely for an assignment. Nowhere do we ask name or identity. If you would rather not take that is fine but I do not understand all the negativity, what is the harm?

As for the ranking question, yes rank the 5 biggest problem you have there are 12 choices what was intended is of the 12 choices to choose the 5 biggest 1 being the most bothersome. When creating surveys via survey monkey formatting is not always perfect.

This was not intended as some "phishing" expedition, it is based on research how the questions were created.

Again I appreciate any responses to it if you do not wish to participate that is fine. I have been researching past threads and polls as well.

Thank you

UniversityStudent ... people would be more receptive to your project if it hadn't taken you so long to come clean and tell us exactly who you are, what university you're with, and that this is a student project.

You would also get more respect if you had done your research BEFORE creating the survey. There are no "straps" on a cpap machine ... so learn the information first, then formulate your survey based on accurate information. Getting the knowledge first will help you to ask more pertinent questions. I'm surprised that you hadn't done your research first, before creating your survey. Is this what they're teaching you at Cal State?

Also ... I'm rather surprised at the many run-on sentences, lack of punctuation, and grammer mistakes in your posts. You say you're a senior university student. Is this the standard that the school system is turning out now?

Finally ... what class are you doing this survey for?
