Now is the time for all you hoseheads in the Northeast to check your backup power for your machine and make sure it's in good shape. I imagine some of you will be losing power from this storm, so you need to get your system ready to go in case you do.

My thoughts exactly. I recently bought a Devilbiss Intellipap auto and its backup battery from cpap.com. I have yet to unpack the Devilbiss and am wondering if the backup battery that I have will attach to my brick C150 Remstar? I really don't have the time to figure out the Devilbiss, right now, but will if no one tells me if my battery will work with my C150 or not.

Don't forget all us rednecks down in Tornado Alley

On a related note, I took the batteries out of my 8 year old UPS to load test and desulfate them. The battery (which has a 5 year estimated service life) was fine. When I got back home, the electromechanical relay that switches from AC to battery power had burnt out.

Time to pull out the ol' soldering iron...
When in doubt, open the case. Remember: If you can't open it, you don't own it!

Prescribed APAP range - 6-10 cm/H2O, titrated at 8.
Current range - 9.0-11.5 cm/H2O - still searching for the magic "zero night" but averaging 2.2 AHI

Good luck to everyone in Sandy's path. I live on Long Island and we are bracing for it. Unfortunately I have no battery backup for my CPAP. I'm going to continue to read the posts and see what everyone else is doing about it.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing of my fellow CPAPers in that vicinity last night watching the news. Check in with us let us know how you're doing.

I am pretty close to projected path of Sandy near where it will be closing in to the inland cold front with local weather reporting high winds for mostly Tuesday in my area with possible gusts 75mph and widespread power outages. If anyone is able, a small Generator can be bought for about $200.00 that will have enough wattage to run your CPAP and a few small items like Radio, Small TV, and a few Lamps, especially with low watt florescent bulbs which are usually 13-23 watts each. NEVER run a Generator indoors or near open windows. Make sure the exhaust is facing away from your house and toward the wind if possible. It would be a good investment for those of us on CPAP plus the other benefits of having light etc. My CPAP has a 90watt power supply, most of the smaller Generators are 2000watts so plenty left over for a few other items. I am expecting a store run on Generators, water, etc. as we are being told of the possibility of a few weeks without power. Don't wait to the last minute if you are in the warning areas, we are watching the weather channel, tune in! DO BUY PLENTY OF DISTILLED WATER and Drinking water, LED flashlights will last much longer than "bulb" flashlights, buy extra batteries, I don't recommend generics, BJ's and Sams Club sell large packs of 20-24 AA & AAA for about the same price you pay for three 4 packs at Wal-Mart etc. Also there are some good tips on the weather channel of how else to prepare. Better safe than sorry! Prayers and thoughts with everyone!

Lol, I live on an actual island. Is that bad? My horrible job is 2 blocks from the ocean. Do you think it will slide into it? I sure hope so.

Dear "Guest", I didn't post for my benefit but for anyone else that may be in the path as I am. Hopefully to encourage people not to take it lightly as every News Cast I have seen are expressing the importance of being prepared as well as our LOCAL news who states possible outages in our area and well beyond for weeks. But since I didn't include my location I will share with you that I am very close to PA/NY line in central NY which is considered the Finger Lakes Region. We are in the full Red Zone with current projections of this storm even going well past us by approx. 150 miles. If you are watching the Weather Channel you can see this for yourself. We have a cold front moving in from the west which is forecast to meet Sandy pretty close to us and cause snow in the high elevations and complicate what we get from Sandy. We are pretty high up but again the intent of this Post is to try and share the importance of trying to prepare NOW. Just a note, I am from CT and grew up on the Sound so very familiar with the possible impact there and Long Island, I can appreciate some humor once in a while but not on occasions like this with over 40 people already killed by Sandy and many having property and loved ones affected, nothing to lol about in my opinion and a time to encourage people to get ready the best they can. Prayers and thoughts to all.

My heart goes out to you all that are in the line of fire for this hurricane. 7/2012 north Denver got hit by 75 mph winds at the time when we laid concrete in our driveway. I remember it so well, it started to sprinkle. Suddenly, the winds came in at 75mph (Hurricane winds). I had to come into the garage because we were afraid that the winds would have taken me away. Meanwhile, I watched my husband single-handedly secure the plastic on the driveway. Never in my life had I ever seen rain come down so quickly sideways like this in the midst of 75mph wind! We were talking about it over the dinner table tonight. Hubbs said to me, "Imagine going through that for 48 hours." I couldn't. For those of you that have Google+, Weather Channel is on it. I put myself on follow mode to get the latest updates.
On that note Tim, I totally agree with you, BE PREPARED!

One thing a lot of people forget about that's not use to preparing for these things is your prescription drugs. If power is out, your pharmacy is out also. I always fill what I need and tell them it's a vacation override for the insurance purpose, that way they'll pay for it if it's not it's normal time to be refilled. Here in Florida they tell you the first 3 days you are on your own so food, water, gas and your drugs and anything else you need. The last bad storm we had here was Ivan and I don't care to go through one like that again. So stay safe and don't do anything foolish, remember stuff can be replaced.

I'm in ksmike's "totally screwed" area. Evacuations ordered for all low lying areas by tomorrow evening. I'm up on a hill so should be okay, but many of my elderly parish members remember the houses they still live in being flooded by Hurricane Agnes, so tensions are high.

Our township has ordered that no one rake their leaves into the street for the street sweepers, as they "might clog the storm drains". I guess the great gurus in town think that all the leaves now on our front lawns will politely remain there until after the storm

'Cause you may not be able to go anywhere and may be without power, so kick back and "chillax". As opposed to me hunkering down and hoping the 80' tree I can't afford to have removed doesn't fall on my head....
