Follow up to head gear

Post by Hopefull » Tue Oct 23, 2012 7:44 am

I took some advice last night and used a small piece of Velcro on my headgear to keep it in place overnight. It worked great and the headgear didn't move once that I know of. The leaks improved also I think with the exception of when I was first adjusting it and for the last hour, the last hour was a solid leak of around 5 that kept my overages close to the same but a little lower. My question is this. Can a better fit on a mask cause my ahi to go up I know it sounds silly but my ahi hadn't been that high since September 1 and my peak ahi more than doubled. I know from reading on hear or least I think I know that to high a pressure can cause the ca to go up but the ha went up and also the oa is this just a coincidence or is something else going on. I should also add that in the last hour while the leaks were the worst and fairly steady there was just a couple spread out events were you would think would be the most

I know my AHI wanders around from 0.4 up to 2.8 and if I have a bad night as high as 4.6 so I wouldn't worry too much about one night of higher events. If you see that consistently it may be that the machine is catching some events it missed if you had more leaks.

To me, "a better fit" means no leaks and some level of comfort for the user. If your leak rates are low it, will not cause your AHI to go up. I have found that a lot of things can cause my AHI to go up. Stress, health, lack of sleep, quality of sleep, personal issues and your cpap machine's ability to respond and react to an apnea event. It seems you have found "your" mask. Give it more time and see what happens.

Thanks I hadn't thought about the machine catching apneas it had been missing. My ahi has been right around three for most of the two months. It got just over five only twice last night it was 8.5. It really didn't seem like a huge difference in leaks though its hard for me to tell with the one that was an hour long averaged in just hadn't seen the ahi that high and didn't really sleep very good. I'm sure I'm probably trying to read too much into it

Yes i do like the mask just trying to get rid of the small leaks. Don't want to do anything to go backwards
