Cpap dot com problems

Post by Gsmits » Fri Oct 12, 2012 8:18 pm

It seems that cpap dot com will not act a return for a cpap on the basis of loud noise. I just bought a transcend model for travel. It is advertised as 29 DB. But this thing is LOUD. They state that they will not take a return on the basis of noise.

Now I may had a $450 paperweight. Thanks cpap dot com.

How long did you have it? Twenty nine db is a LOT louder than 20, or 22.
The scale for decibels is logarithmic. A lot of people know this already, but the rest of us can Google it.
Ear plugs are rated by the volume they can reduce sound perception.

Don't blame our hosts. You bought an FDA registered Class II medical device, not a piece of consumer electronics. As such it can't be returned and re-sold as new to someone else. The Transcend has a long and colorful history on this forum. Can you believe it was originally intended to be worn on the head? Strange but true!

I doubt that CPAP dot COM, forced you to buy the product you did, usually you are free to choose what you want. Bigger is usually better, smaller is usually built cheaper, there's a reason for that. In anything you buy their are tradeoffs, you need to do your homework and or ask others about the quality, for me if it looks loke a toy , I get a Tank. In fact I have three Tanks. They are getting old but are still in the battle. Jim

Hi Gsmits,

As one who is very noise sensitive due, I am very sympathetic to your concerns. But cpap.com does clearly state that the machine can't be returned once purchased.

I would either look into options for dealing with the noise or sell your unit on craig's list and hopefully get close to what you paid for it.

Hi Gsmits,

Did you do any research before buying the Transcend CPAP? It seems most reviews mention noise as an issue.

Read the reviews here: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/transc ... eviews#tab

What level of noise is acceptable to you? Try downloading a free dB meter app and see what level of noise your CPAP machine is actually producing. It looks like some CPAP machines run around 29/30dB.

Even the "silent" machine clocks 30dB: https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/proba ... igodigital

Good luck in your search for a quite CPAP.

Is there some way that you can deaden the sound...how about putting the machine on a very thick folded towel, or the phone book. I have a foam pad that is actually a knee saver for the garden. I cut it in half and now have two sound absorbers, one I use all the time on my night stand with my machine sitting on it and the other I have in my motorhome for the very same reason...cuts down on machine noise.
If you had carefully read the reviews and info before you purchased this machine you would have found that it has a higher noise factor than some of the others that are available. Cheaper is not always better, and if sound is a factor for you then you have obviously bought the wrong one. You can't blame cpap.com, they put the info right there for you to do your due diligence before you buy, the sound decibel info was right there for you to read. This is not a defect of the machine, it is a noisy one. There are ways to deaden sound or to override them with white noise, do some research and you will find a solution.
I hope that you are able to resolve your problem soon and get on to sleeping well and getting the best therapy available.
Cheers
Nan

So sorry you have a problem with the noise of the new machine. I hope it's not your primary machine.
I also understand it's hard to think maybe you chose the wrong machine.

Now, about cpap dot com. I had a shipment from them a little while back. I wasn't home when the FedEx delivery person left said box on my porch.
When I got home the contents of this package were all over my yard in little pieces. Some items were missing, some had been chewed beyond recognition by a good ol' dog.
I was furious and only wanted to find a way to tell that delivery driver and/or his boss how I felt about losing my $300.00 shipment of CPAP supplies. In that frustration, I could not
figure out the most direct way to do this via FedEx website.
I called CPAP dot com only to see if they could tell me exactly who to contact.
The lady I spoke with was awesome. She told me not to worry about anything (she could tell I was upset) and just send whatever was left of the package back to them.
She emailed me a return shipping label and that was that.
I returned what little was left, and all of those items/pieces had dog slobber and teeth marks everywhere!
To my surprise, Cpap dot com replaced and reshipped everything.

IMHO, this company went above and beyond any expected levels of customer service.

Pam

I sure hope I don't get your returns!!!! Nice to know if you don't get your goods for a reason totally beyond your control, they are willing to help! Maybe next time you could ask for a fence for your yard in addition? So long as it only keeps the dogs out, not the delivery guy!

gsmits:
if noise is the only problem you are having with the Transcend;
may I suggest you place it low, near the floor, on a step stool or a briefcase.
Much sound travels in a straight line, and if the edge of your bed is between
the Transcend and your head, the sound should seem less noticeable.
I would also use some of Nanwilson's suggestions.
To think: the first cpaps were very noisy.

"This item is red"- when you get it "wah this is not what I thought red was" is called entitlement, it is not broken, it is not invalid, it is not the wrong item, it is not the wrong size.

When you buy something over $50 - do your research.

Trust me, there wasn't enough of anything left to make a guess of what it used to be.
I would have never asked, or even suggested, they replace anything. They are A+++ in my book.
I just wanted to scream at the delivery guy and ask "what were you thinking?".

Big difference between an unforeseeable event like a bored/mouthy canine vs. a foreseeable one like someone not doing their homework before plunking down half a kilobuck of hard earned cash on a piece of baggage like that unit is.

On the other hand, I sort of wonder why our sponsors even carry that unit, given its high price and primitive capabilities and loud noise figure when more advanced and much quieter units are available for the same price or less. A quick read of the reviews indicates people are surprised at how loud it is.
