Its was all about the pressure

Post by Grumpygus » Fri Oct 05, 2012 7:35 am

For the first time ever, I slept with my CPAP on for 7 and a half hours!

Went into the doc yesterday and told them the problems I was having, gaging as soon as the machine started, waking up fighting for air(Because of too much), waking up multiple times and eventually just giving up. So he found that my autofunctions were set from 5 to 20 on the machine. He set that to 8 to 15 with a ramp-up timer that started at 4 on a 10 minute delay.
He also set me up with another sleep study to help "dial in" what pressures I actually need. ((I did a home study the first time))

Wow what a difference! Woke up only one time the whole night and finally got some dreaming going on!

Thanks guys for all your help! I think without this forum I would have given up after the first week, but seeing so many people on here that have struggled in the past and are now wearing their gear for years really helped, that and all the great advice!

Glad to hear it's working! FYI, you may want to disable that ramp after you get used to it, or bump the starting pressure to like 6.

No way I could start at 4 or 5, myself! But I guess it's okay for some people.

Unless you can't stand the pressure, stop using the ramp as well.

I think doctors put too much trust in a low minimum pressure on an APAP or CPAP machine. I feel much better with my minimum pressure a bit higher, even though I show no apneas at the lower pressure.
