When you ddownload there is a question in the middle of the page that says "Erase after download" and it asks you again when you go to exit......You have to answer it each time you do the download and when you exit.....don't feel bad we've all done it a few times or more
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Actually Encore Viewer doesn't ask that question about erase the card or return it to the patient.
Encore Pro does though. Using Encore Viewer there is no way to accidentally erase the card.

The smart card must be in the machine completely and properly for any data to be written to the smart card.
Verify that the smart card is inserted properly...single beep heard and see what happens after tonight's use.
If still no data then smart card may be damaged (I don't think they ever get full) or the machine has stopped writing to the smart card. Might try the old pencil eraser trick on the gold box thing on the card just in case it is dirty.

I have had the "no data" thing show up when I used the M series machine with the smart card but it was because I had inserted the card but not quite fully. Hadn't paid attention to the "beep".
Remember single beep the card is inserted properly....multiple beeps the card is inserted wrong...no beeps mean the card is not fully inserted to the point that it either beeps once or multiple beeps.

I've had that happen too many times with EncoreViewer. I called customer service and they suggested opening a new profile. It works until you run out of space for profiles and have to delete data from the program. I'd recommend downloading SleepyHead software. It's free and, in my opinion, is a better program that will download your data even when EncoreViewer refuses. Should you get a new Remstar System 60 machine, the $99 program has not been updated and will refuse to accept your data. SleepyHead hasn't been updated either, but at least I didn't waste $99 on it. I really look forward to the updated version of SleepyHead.

I have another thought. Is it possible that you left the SD card in the locked position so that even if inserted correctly, it will not write to the card? When I put my card into my computer, I lock it so that there is no danger of erasing the data. Once removed from the computer, it needs to be unlocked. There is a little tab on the left side of the card. The tab usually has to be in the up position so that it is unlocked and ready to accept data from the machine.

Even if he did erase the data when exiting the program, I'd expect to see the data for the latest session in Encore.

It might be a good time to upgrade to Encore Basic.

no, it is not possible that i left the SD card in the locked position because as the subject of this post says - i was having a "smart card" issue, not an SD card issue.

i used sleepyhead in the past with a different CPAP machine of mine and i loved it, but last i heard it is not compatible with machines using smart cards like the BIPAP Auto SV i'm using now.

when did i ever say i was using a Remstar System 60 machine?

Are you implying i'm wasting my money on Encore Viewer? should i not be trying to view my data?

I obviously value the information data provides. Otherwise I wouldn't have wasted the money on EncoreViewer. If SleepyHead was available, I wouldn't have bought EncoreViewer. When I replied before, I had no idea what kind of CPAP machine you have. I was simply pointing out that EncoreViewer and Sleepyhead don't work with System 60 machines. I just got a System 60 machine and am using EncoreBasic which I obtained free through a forum member.

Your reply doesn't indicate whether you have tried entering your profile again to repair data input on your EncoreViewer program. It worked for me until I got my System 60 machine.
