Anyone let your spouse wear your hose?

Post by apsews » Thu Sep 20, 2012 8:48 pm

I know this is an odd question but I would like my husband to get a sleep study because his snoring is very disturbing. He hasn't said no but getting him to actually do it is another thing. Is there any harm in making him use my machine for a night and see the results in the data and maybe it would convince him to really go?

Are you sure the question isn't about weighing the risks of him wearing your hose or him wearing a pillow tightly over his face until he stops snoring.

The major risk is that his face size will screw up your mask. Use an older mask.

You should not do this if he isn't healthy enough to exercise or he can't blow up a ballon or has had any lung related issues or major head, chest or throat surgery.

This is a job for a sleep doctor, not a rookie. Maybe you should say something like: If you want to do the happy dance in the pants anymore with me, you better get your ass to the sleep doctor pronto. Well okay, maybe you could be more subtle, but this is serious stuff and all's fair in love and OSA.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I let my mom use my machine for 2 partial nights. But she already has cpap, so we had a base prescription to set it to, and she was already comfortable with her own mask. She used her own hose and mask, so all I had to do was download the data to get hers by itself. And then I changed the prescription settings back to my own.

We did this because we felt her prescription was not working well enough for her, and her machine was an old brick. Once we had the data, she made an appointment, and the sleep doctor used that and a previous sleep study to prescribe a new full data machine with an auto range.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

LOL,you have obviously slept with a snorer. Sometimes it crosses my mind,jk!

I didn't think about the mask,I only have the one since I am new to this too. I imagine mine will be too small for him. Besides I don't like the thought of sleeping without it myself,I have came to actually like it

Ah he is healthy as a horse other than his thundering snores.

Lol,sounds like a good plan.

zoocrewphoto, that sounds like a better reason to share your hose than mine does now that I think about it. Maybe not a good idea, but the snoring is killer sometimes

I used my back up machine to screen my sister and her husband. My sister had all the classic symptoms and didn't have one single event and the APAP never budged off of the minimum.
Now her husband...all he had as a symptoms was mild snoring and he definitely had some events and the pressure pegged out at 10 (the max I set). He blew it off though.

If you can't get him to a doctor then maybe down the road if you get a backup machine you can revisit the idea of screening him with your machine. By then you will likely have a used extra mask that he could try.

I let my neighbour use one of mine to see if it would help him......it did...his wife said there was no snoring coming from his side of the bed Alas, he is still paddling up the river of de Nile.
It will not hurt anyone to use it, as long as you have it set on a wide range of pressures. That way, it will only go as high as is needed to catch any problems...if there are any.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

I've thought about it, but not willing to give up my machine for a night LOL. He snores a little as he mostly sleeps on his back, but I've never noticed his breathing falter in the slightest so don't believe he has OSA. Also I only have a straight CPAP so that won't be much of a valid test.

I DID make DH wear my mask, hooked up to the machine, for 15 minutes when I first started therapy so he'd have an understanding of what I was dealing with.

Cheers,
xena

Because my oxygen saturations were so low during my initial sleep test, I purchased a pulse oximeter so I could monitor this as well as the AHI information I get from my machine. This is a nifty little device that I have let my husband and several friends use. If someone's oxygen saturation is going down below 90 while they sleep, that's a good reason to talk with a doctor. And my husband's numbers never went below 93! Jealous! Not so good with my sister in law, who dipped into the 80s.

This plan could backfire on you. He may be so miserable on a poorly fitting mask that he will be even more reluctant to get tested and treated. Proceed with caution.

BTW, I just know there's a good joke about cross-dressing in the title of this thread, I'm just not clever enough to come up with it.

He has his own machine. --He got it after I showed him video of him having apneas while asleep.
Happily, his machine has also improved the party readiness of the bullfrog's party equipment.

Once upon a time, long ago. I let my husband wear my hose (and other things) for the fun of it. We eventually got divorced (for other reasons) and when we met again, 30 years later, he was called Catherine.
