hospital and cpap now - HOME again

Post by greatunclebill » Sun Aug 26, 2012 7:37 pm

i have sleep apnea and asthma along with copd (asthmatic bronchitis and emphysema). i haven't been feeling good lately so i went to the ER this morning. here i sit in my hospital room on my laptop. the hosp has wi-fi. the admitting doctor cleared the road for me when he wrote patient is permitted to use his personal cpap and mask. all i had to do was ask. they kept me because it looks like i have pnuemonia at an early stage. getting lots of iv's, breathing treatments and o2. don't know if i'll be out before or after the coming storm.
back home again. they said it was a lung event, that the old ticker is ok. apparently i had the start of pneumonia and the lots of iv steroids and iv antibioics along with breathing treatments took care of it. thanks for all the good words, thoughts and prayers. that stuff works.

greatunclebill, I'm sending thoughts and prayers your way. I'm wondering what the storm will actually do--they keep talking about it. I hope you have a good night's sleep and feel better tomorrow. Blessings to you.

thank you for the kind words. i'll check in as i can. every staff person that comes in gets a little education about modern cpap's, recording pulse ox and how it all fits with sleepyhead. i feel like a carny draggin' 'em in.

greatunclebill

I wish you a fast and complete healing, nice medical personnel to take wonderful care of you and to be able to pass the necessary time at the hospital (before or until the storm has passed?) and to find not too boring that hospital time .

Good idea to give them a little training on CPAP matters

I am glad you got in before the storm and got treated. It is probably the best place to wait it out.

Enjoy your role as educator!

Urgh! Sorry to hear the stay is necessary but sure glad you are getting proper treatment. And it is so neat you get to educate the staff!!!! We're so proud of you as we know you will do a good job. There IS a method to this world's madness! How else would staff get the opportunity for this education?? (((hugs))), gub!

Best of luck on your health. Get well soon! I wouldn't use the hospital equipment if they water-boarded me.

Get well soon.

I know I've said it before, but I recommend that almost everyone get a pneumonia vaccine if they can. It's not 100% effective, but it's safe and cheap.

still in the hospital. getting iv solu medrol and an antibiotic iv regularly. and roids make me angry. i've had ekg, chest x-ray followed by lung ct with contrast. had both legs doppler ultrasound from deep in the groin to ankles (interesting LOL....). that followed by ecg. if the ecg and ultrasound are clean i may go home tomorrow. they were looking pretty aggressively for blood clots in the legs and lungs. also blood draws at all hours around the clock. most of the staff are doing good with the draws considering i have very slippery little veins that alot of techs have problems with.
