fx quattro leaks, liners, sensory overload & help!

Post by lliann » Mon Aug 20, 2012 4:51 am

All of those.

I was doing so well. Now my quattro leaks constantly(after the first position change) It was perfect for a while. Than the pad a leak helped. now nothing stops the fluttering and honking.

I tried an old hair band as a chin liner because I have a pretty good smile crease from my mouth that I think helps cause the leaks (I dunno). The leak siren went nutso and gave me a full fledged unhappy face for the night.

So any ideas on how I can get this mask to work again? Its less than 2 months old so I would think the seal is ok. I do wash my face with special cleaning wipes(altho I do not have oily skin except when I eat genoa salami-oops)

Once it starts, there is no making it not. I have tried the pull off, wiggle, reset.

I like this mask. I can tolerate it when its not leaking. its a medium. Traded in from the small. The small sort of pinched my nostril and with the deviated septum, that was a deal breaker. But I think the med is a tad too big.

Wonder about the home made tshirts liners. Could someone describe how you do that.(pictures are great too since I am a visual person)

Lastly, was reading the best tip thread and saw RobySue's sensory overload comment. Made me sit up. I have some sensory issues (touch- I am very texture driven, etc) One theory is about being a low birth weight baby (I was under 5 pounds, but Im not anymore!!)

So I am hypersensitive to these flutters and leaks. I have to work on the air touching my nose (everything can translate into an itch) I wonder how else this sensory issue can affect our experience with paps and hoses and air oh my.

I am discouraged because I am pulling off the mask and even sleeping without it. I am not a quitter. I am solution based, so please any ideas?

LLIAN, you don't say that you have tried washing the cushion. If not, that might help. I use a little baby shampoo with the hottest water from the tap, rinse with hot water and let air dry. I wash mine probably about once a week. You might also review the threads about boiling the cushions.

Jay

lilliann, it may be time for a new cushion, or try the boiling thing. Also , make sure the cushion is securely in the groove of the mask frame. The cusion can slip out a bit there and cause leaks. After all is clean and secure , loosen the straps , turn on the machine and fit your mask again. kathy
Any landing you walk away from is a good one; if you don't break your airplane it's excellent.

Llian, something's changed if you have been using it for 2 mo. & all of a sudden it leaks. Straps no longer tight enough or a tear in the silicone ? Sounds like you added a Padacheeks liner if so maybe there's a fold or cut that has created a leak path, try to work that out. Maybe this might help. Stand in front of a mirror w/ your gear on & pump running. Wiggle the mask around to find the location or cause of the leak(s). I use one & like it especially w/ the liner. Hard to diagnose from a distance. Best of luck, tell us if this is of any help.

I'm sorry if I ask too many questions Doctor, but I hope you understand that breathing while sleeping is very important to me. I'd prefer not to be like the man who drowned while crossing a river with an average depth of 6 inches.

Thank you all. Yes Jay, I wash it about once a week or every 4-5 days. Have not done the boiling thing. That makes me nervous. ( ok not nervous nervous but I suspect I have a way to screw it up if there is a way)

Going to the sleep doctor tomorrow. Going to ask for that ongoing "give her whatever supplies she needs when she needs them according to schedule" script. Will ask for a new seal and then maybe I will try boiling the other one<g>

I don't know. Home early from work today so I will go check out the seal for owies. I really can't think of what could have made it start leaking. I was on a roll there for a bit, even the side sleeping didn't bother it, and then boom...leaking.

I still have not accessed the software. I am still working and then sleeping and catching up on weekends, so I want to have the time to understand it(I can be really dense about software/graphs-not my strong suit) But my first compliance read showed leaks

I did actually touch a sandisk in the store but they are all hc or hd or something and I thought I read not to get that kind? So I am getting closer. Plus I put in for retirement. I am tired of being tired.
