New Video on Fitting SleepWeaver Advance Mask

Post by cherylgrrl » Tue Aug 07, 2012 10:15 am

I have seen that a lot of people who have tried the SleepWeaver mask have generally liked it but had problems with air leaks. I've been lucky in that it seems to fit my nose and face really well, but there are some simple fitting tips in this new video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wB19Mvxxl4o This might be helpful for anyone who tries the mask and wants to see if they can control any leaks that might be ocurring. I also tested the SleepWeaver Elan, but it did leak excessively for me and required frequent adjustment through the night. It lacks the straps that go from the Advance mask between your eyes and attach to the top of the headgear. This seems to be the key in getting the leak-free performance... but this might all be related to your own particular facial geography!

That's a great video. I like all of the Lanky Lefty stuff, he is really doing a nice service with great YouTube content. We are organizing and curating YouTube CPAP videos thorugh a new YouTube Channel here https://www.youtube.com/user/MyCpap/videos if you are interested in more video content. It's just getting started, but I just added the video you shared to a Sleepweaver Advanced playlist.

Thanks for posting this. I was starting a thread yesterday and forgot to copy it, and lost everything I had typed...
So there is an Elan, and Advanced, and an Advanced Improved???
I think they need to name these beasts.

Anyway, last night was night 4 and I think I am making progress.
Thanks Sylvie and Squid!!

Do you notice a big improvement between the Elan and Advanced.. or are you using the Advanced Improved?
I love the concept, but it does take some patience.
The first 2 nights it slipped up and the seal sealed my nares!
I also had mild leaks near my eyes, which disturbed my sleep, but were not a deal breaker.
When it seals right, I don't even know I have it on! It's so light that hose management seems to be more important than with other masks.
My data is showing lower leaks than with the Swift Fx & LT, but I assume there is a difference in the calculation.
Do you have to fiddle with the fit every time you put it on?
I wish it had a quick release somewhere so I could keep my adjustments.

I watched the video, and then listened to the SiriusXM interview on Sleepweaver.
Interesting that the version released earlier this year was marketed directly to truckers.
Is that why my élan is so BIG?

Chunkyfrog, I wondered about the size too! All of the pictures show the mask down below the guy's eyes and on me it is puffed up half way over my eyes. I think I would like a small! Maybe the Advanced or Advanced Improved resolves this. I will wait for confirmation from other users.

The air is much colder with the Elan. I guess I will get the climateline hose back out. I hadn't used it since spring.

There is a "SleepWeaver Advanced with Zephyr Seal" and a "SleepWeaver Elan". The Elan is the newest. Apparently there was once a SleepWeaver Advanced (without Zephyr Seal) or something else, but that was before my time! I was confused and started with the Advanced, thinking that was the new mask. Loved it! Then when I finally figured out that the Elan was the new mask, I ordered it with the free 30-day money back guarantee. I didn't like it nearly as much. One night then it was back in the box for return to cpap.com.

Yes, the Elan seemed too big to me. The Advance puffs down, not out. Easier to adjust for me, only takes a second.

How exciting to hear about a whole CPAP Youtube library being curated! Very exciting! I hope this means there will be quality and not necessarily *everything* that has been posted about CPAP.

Thanks Cheryl, I assumed the Elan was the original/first version. Their naming system needs some work. Just a version 1.0, 2.0, 2.1 would suffice! As it is, I don't know if I have the new one or the old one. The Advanced does seem like it would seal better but I'm going to wait for other reviews before I pull the trigger on a purchase.
