Mirage or Fx ?

Post by PajamaGuy » Mon Jul 30, 2012 7:27 am

Well, it's been 4 nights now & getting worse, not better. I'm beginning to have bad feelings for my mask. (Full-Face Quattro Fx) - It works/fits only when I am flat on my back, and when my jaw drops, it leaks. After a couple of hours the upper braces are pinching my eyes closed. I almost flung it across the room this morning.

Sure, I'm 6'1" and 240 lbs. And I have a BIG head. The mask's top straps must be full-out, and the bottom ones all but about ½" from full out. Because of my mouth-breathing past, we're not even trying a nasal mask.

I'm going to try to get the supplier to try a Quattro Mirage with the forehead brace.

Is there a section in this forum where Mask reviews reside?

I made the same observation regarding the FX. The Quattro is more stable, in my humble opinion, with the forehead support. I also recommend getting a Padacheek liner as well for the Quattro, it just makes the mask so much more comfortable.

Thanks! I'll look into it!

...and - My "Mask" is size LARGE, but the straps(headgear??) are labled as MEDIUM. Somebody posted here or in the mask reviews that the sets ship with medium headgear (straps) and you have to get LARGE from ResMed. ?? Shouldn't the supplier who sets you up be responsible for getting the correct equipment?

Whoops, I forgot to mention, The lady who brought my equipment wasn't here 20 min. and told me the "mask" was large and they don't come any bigger. For any other NewBee out there, these masks have multiple pieces all costing $$, and many have different sizes - I think that's a good thing so individuals can get a more custom fit, but beware of suppliers who do not take the time, and/or don't realize NewBees don't know what questions to ask.

This is a great board! Many thanks to the folks who take the time to post here!

Re: Mirage or Fx ? -or- PR Comfort Gel!

Post by PajamaGuy » Mon Jul 30, 2012 9:57 am

Just talked with "Jean" at SMS (my provider) - and I feel much better. She promises me that she, and SMS will change masks, headgears, pads, whatever is needed to get me a comfortable fit. She's sending me today a PR Comfort Gel setup to try. It's one of the few that has an Extra-Large size!

She explained quite a bit about my machine and setup, and what to expect for the first weeks. She seems to really know her stuff, and was genuinely eager to answer my questions and help me become a happy HoseHead.

I wonder if they will set you up with the old ComfortGel or the new Comfortgel Blue;
The exhaust on the new one is better, but the cushions are interchangeable between models, but not sizes.

I will suggest to use mirage quattro and not FX, and especially if you have big head. Also on quattro you have the dial to adjust the pressure that the mask makes you on upper nose to avoid like from there.
After mine technical expertise the Quattro FOR ME is better than Quattro fx
