sleep study- spasticity invol jerking vs. plm/rls

Post by mtn aire » Fri Jul 27, 2012 11:19 pm

i had 'night vision' recording of my sleep study. i noticed in the report submitted to the referring pulmonist differences in what i recall experiencing and what they reported.
the report said i was 'sleeping' for x # minutes/hours. well as far as eyes closed , yes- but actually 'sleeping' not so much. also i have spasticy issues and have involuntary jerking, not just at sleep. suggested in report as 'plm's or rls'. dang =those spasms hurt like the dickesn and wake me up--- and hard to go to sleep too.
i thought the sensors on body only detected 'movement'. how could the nite camera see or tell the difference? i was covered up with blankets- i was soooo cold in that room.
anyone else have the spasticity issues??

I would be interested in knowing the exact wording of the portions of your study regarding your movements. A sleep study does track movements, but they look at them in relation to other factors to see, for instance, things like if they are related to respiratory efforts. In the case of PLMD, the movements must meet certain timing criteria.

There was a period of time when my meds for my RLS/PLMD caused augmentation, and I had involutary movements even when awake. Once I was off those meds, the daytime movements stopped. Is there a name for your particular spasticity problems?
