REsmed S9 Humidifier

Post by Chikorita » Tue Jul 17, 2012 1:49 am

I'd be interested to know what people think about the washable tub verses the disposable tub which is included with the machine.

The washable tub has to be preferred over the disposable one as its very easy to disassemble and clean.
I'm a bit surprised by your question though as I though all Resmed S9's sold in Australia had the washable tub. Have they now tried to cut costs by supplying the disposable one instead, not that I had noticed their prices dropping.
Being washable allows me to use our top quality tap water instead of distilled, and then give the tub a really good clean every week of two.

I'm buying online. Will make sure I get the washable. Thanks.

The washable tank is nice. Similar to what I had with my Respironics machine. I don't have the washable tank with my ResMed machine. I just have the disposable one. It isn't the end of the world to have one but it is a PITA if someone wants or needs to do a thorough cleaning. I have had mine since Feb and only use distilled water. Use up most of the water each night so minimal water is left to sit. Top it off each night and I have rinsed it out maybe twice. Still looks brand new.

If you can afford the added expense for the washable tank and since ordering online and will have shipping costs anyway then by all means get the washable tank included at time of purchase. It won't affect shipping costs when packaged with the machine.

My DME gave me the disposable tub with my first setup last month. The respiratory therapist told me that they're almost through with their stock of the disposable style, and she expects by my first resupply in a couple more months, they'll be giving me the washable tub. It hasn't been annoying enough that I've felt the need to go buy a washable tank elsewhere. But I'm looking forward to getting the type I can clean better. I don't let water sit in mine but I still eye it up a bit suspiciously wondering what's growing in there.

I have the disposable tank. 19 months of distilled water and really random rinsing, It's crystal clear. There is a youtube video on taking it apart but I have never had the need.

My dishwasher is the one with 10 fingers. But had 3 instances of pink slime in the disposable after traveling. Even though I got it dry every day and washed with hot soapy water every week, and rinsed and rinsed and rinsed with RO water.
So glad to have the dishwasher safe tub. It is slightly heavier.

Have you tried washing the tank with vinegar and water solution
