Full face / hybrid mask for side sleeper?

Post by redcoat » Thu Jul 05, 2012 8:35 am

Hi all,

2 days in, and last night my nose was blocked Obviously doesn't work with a nasal mask.

I have to sleep on my side, but suspect I need a full face or hybrid mask.

Can anyone suggest one that is perhaps better for side sleepers?

thanks!

I am a side sleep and have used a Quattro for over 3 years. The trick with the Quattro (and probably others) is to sleep on the edge of the pillow with the mask off of the pillow. I am a left side sleeper and use the right side of my buckwheat hull pillow.

Though the Quattro is a popular mask here, there are many, many threads of folks experiencing leaks with the Quattro. It appears to be a mask you either love or hate. There are boat-loads of full face mask. If I was new and knew what I know now. I would go to cpap.com, and look up the full face masks. They can sort them by popularity. I would make a list, then go to my DME and start trying them on. Take your pillow with you. Have your DME hook up a cpap machine that is set at your pressure. When you found a comfortable mask, lie on the floor and roll around. If a mask leaks at the DME, it will leak at home. Note that some faces will relax at night, which will cause a mask to leak later while sleeping and not when you first put on the mask on. If a mask passes the "taste-test", try it at home. Note that most DME's will allow you to exchange a mask within 30 days.

I've used the FX Quattro for about 3 months now. I scrunch my down pillow so the mask hangs over it and I have another down pillow below it. I sleep on my side and occasionally even on my stomach. I do get leaks from the mask but not enough that I am worried about since my AHI is a good number.
Good luck!
