Any more unbiased impressions of Provent?

Post by kaiasgram » Tue Jul 03, 2012 7:50 pm

I was hoping to hear more from our members who have tried Provent. I was thinking since I cannot afford a backup emergency generator, maybe it would be good to see if I can use Provent successfully for situations like that, or for occasional travel. From the earlier posts it sounds like you're more likely to do well with Provent if you're on fairly low xpap pressures. My curiosity is also because of a wretched night I had last night on my machine -- excellent graphs but crappy sleep due to big time aerophagia and now, acid reflux. I discovered I can't sleep on either side, I immediately start burping every few minutes. Today my chest (esophagus) hurts and I can hardly eat. Breathing doesn't feel so great either. I am still and will continue to be pap-compliant, but now approaching one month on my APAP I am having more problems than before I started. So I'm just wondering...

I have been using the provent for the past 3 months and find myself even more awake during the day than with the cpap, which I have been using successfully for a number of years. I have been recommending it to people.

wfrank, thanks for posting. What has your max pressure been on CPAP? I understand Provent comes in two versions, low resistance and high which supposedly corresponds to the pressures you need on CPAP. Are you now using Provent instead of CPAP regularly? Was Provent hard to get used to?

You will not settle this with an opinion issued by a first-time guest. Guest could easily be someone spamming for Provent.

Two things I recommend (unless you just have time to waste hanging out in a forum):

1. Read the studies. Provent has posted links on their website.

2. Just buy a trial box of 10 for $20 and try it yourself. It is a small investment to satisfy your curiosity that Provent is no comparison in effectiveness to CPAP.

Still a little naive here, thanks for reminding me to be wary about first-time posts.

How do you get the sample pack? I've seen several posts mentioning it, but I don't know how to ge it. Is there a form that I can get my physician to sign? I checked on the Provent site and there are no DME's in my area that dispense Provent. Thanks!

Although I buy mine at a local pharmacy, it is also available over the Internet. The Provent web site has a lot of information, including forms for a physician to use when prescribing it.
