New Top-of-the-Line Auto?

Post by CollegeGirl » Fri Jun 29, 2012 7:41 am

It looks like my insurance company may cover a new Auto machine for me. What's the top of the line right now on the Respironics side? Is it the PR System One REMStar 60 Series Auto CPAP Machine? If so, it looks like it has the same data capabilities my current M-Series auto does, but are users still able to download data from the card? It says "generic SD card" - is it too much to hope they've actually put our data on a typical data card instead of those big bulky cards that have to be read by a card reader bought from Japan? lol. Is it still possible to come by the software you need to read it?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm trying to get this info by lunchtime here on the East Coast - I just hit my out-of-pocket maximum for my plan year, and I only have today to get this machine for free (if that can even be done! I have a good DME, so there's a shot!) Thanks y'all!
Machine: M-Series Auto

Yes, the new PR System One machines use a standard SD card.

The 60 series machines do have a heated hose. Right now the only software that will work with a 60 series machine is EncoreBasic or Encore Pro 2.8. Since Basic offers exactly the same data reports as Pro without the bulk and headaches I am recommending Basic over Pro. I have looked at both..and trust me everyone...Pro offers nothing but hassles and you gain nothing on the reports.

SleepyHead works with the slightly older PR S1 machines but not yet compatible with the 60 series machine.
I did receive a note the other day from the guy who developed the SleepyHead software and he is actively working on getting SleepyHead to work with the new 60 series machines. It shouldn't be horribly long now.

At any rate...Encore Basic will work and you just need to know who to ask to get it... send me a private message. Now it is a Windows based software so if you use a Mac you have to set up some sort of Windows environment for it.
SleepyHead of course has a Mac version.

If your computer has a SD slot then you need nothing else to use the software..no more special expensive bulky card reader.
If it doesn't have a SD slot then you only need a cheap generic adapter/reader for the SD card that you can plug into a USB port.

Yes, as far as APAPs go..in the Respironics line the PR System One Auto CPAP 60 series with Aflex is the newest model.
In addition to the heated hose feature there are a few other minor differences in features but the main one is the heated hose.

Thank you SO MUCH Pugsy for your quick response and your wonderful answers!!! I actually don't want a heated hose, lol. I know, I'm weird! I've also never liked humidifiers. For some reason, heat/humidity are asthma triggers for me sooo I avoid them. Thanks to the wonderful Karen's Pad-a-Cheek supplies, though, I don't have to worry about rainout too much anyway. Maybe I'll see if I can get it without the heated hose?

Thank you so much, Pugsy! I used to be a regular around here, but I never post anymore. After being on the hose successfully for 6 years now (thanks in large part to this place, and especially to Rested Gal) I don't have much occasion to visit these days.

Need to check about a non heated hose but I am sure that one could turn off the heated hose portion of things if you wished.
I don't have the provider manual for that model machine but give me a minute and I will send you a link where you can get the provider/clinical manual so you can evaluate the features of the heated hose. I bet there is some way to turn it off but I don't have the time right now to read through the manual.
Check your PM box in a couple of minutes.

Per the manual, the PRS1 60 will work with a non-heated hose. You can turn off the heat even if you do have the heated hose attached.

The PRS1 collects airflow waveform data, which is an enormous advantage over what the M series collects.

If I were buying a CPAP right now, I'd probably get the ResMed S9 AutoSet, but I wouldn't argue with someone who prefers the PRS1-60 Auto.

I remember you : ))) I too rarely visit and am so glad Pugsy took over for Rested Gal as both have been invaluable in my successful apnea therapy

PS Why only Respironics? I had my 6 year anniversary two weeks ago and can get a new machine. I'm seriously considering (wringing of hands) ResMed S9. It's hard to decide though because as soon as I get one a pretty shiney new one will pop up that cooks breakfast.

It would be interesting to see the leak rate with your over head mask and how would you use a chinstrap over it or under it if you need to.

Why? So you can again bash nasal pillows? Give it a rest..again...just because something works for you doesn't mean it works for everyone else and just because you couldn't be happy with nasal pillows doesn't mean that the rest of us are stupid for being happy with whatever we use.....despite what your personal thoughts are.

Joanie! Gasp! Kathy! Amos! So good to "see" all of you!

Avi, to answer your question, my data graphs show that my leak rate is exactly in line with my mask's vent flow rate at the pressure my auto hovers around most (12 these days). No big spikes that would indicate leaks or mouth-breathing. But thank you for your concern.

I'm curious, so I gotta ask ...

How does the DeVilbiss IntelliPAP AutoAdjust compare?

I saw it mentioned in the S9 bird thread ... And I see that it has a five year warrantee compared to only two for the S9 ... Does it have the same data calibilities? Quiet?
