Stone in Subblingular Gland measuring 7mm

Post by KayCJRCP » Wed Jun 27, 2012 11:56 pm

This think is driving me crazy!!!! Help.... The ENT I went to see said he couldn't get to it through my mouth and would have to surgically remove it and the gland. with this could be great problems. Is there any other way? I don't want the possibility of my nerves in my jaw or mouth being screwed up. I am so open for suggestions

Hey Kay,

I do not know what a subblingular gland stone is and I dare say not many other people on the forum may either but I can only speak for myself. It is probably a question for a doctor, (any doctors here?).

The advice I CAN give however is that kind of medical question is a perfect one for an online medical question answering service. I have been using a site called just answer when I have medical questions. The URL is http://www.justanswer.com. Look, it is a pay site - but they verify the answerers as being the trade/doctor they say they are and I have got heaps of very good medical advice on there. You pay for each question and choose your price to a degree or get a monthly subscription for unlimited questions. They have helped me alot. If you are not happy with the answer you can keep asking the doctor questions or choose another one. You need to choose the category of the 'expert' and they *may* have ENT doctors on the site. If not choose the general 'medical' expert category.

I know this sounds like a bloody advert but I am just giving my advice on how to get a medical answer if no one can help you here.

This has nothing to do with OSA or Cpap.

Ooops, the OP forgot to start their subject w/OT: Ah well, no harm done. Nor that hard to figure out.

Sub means under
Lingular would most likely apply to the mouth, likely the tongue
Gland we all have a pretty good idea of

So my guess would be a salivary gland in the mouth, maybe along side or under the tongue has produced a "stone" 7 mm in size (and I have NO idea how to "translate" 7 mm into inches or any measurement I can visualize).

Further, I'm taking a guess that a sublingual gland coud be induced to produce a stone as the result of repeated episodes of dry mouth.

And, thus, this thread quite likely DOES have something to do w/OSA and/or CPAP.

Seven mm is slightly over a quarter inch.
--Still could be a pitch for the website; but some may benefit.
I wonder where the terminology came from; sublingual is what I've always heard.
Can't imagine getting the odd spelling from a genuine medical site,
--unless the answer is from one of those medical folks who don't speak 'American'.

Seems to me the OP is probably legit, if only because of the misspelling.

And stones in these glands and salivary glands are MISERABLE. My dad got them and I've had a few, but fortunatley mine were small and not too painful (not so for my dad). Scared the &^%$# out of me the first time, because suddenly I had this huge swollen gland in my cheek--a week or two after a similar looking growth in the dog's mouth turned out to be a malignant melanoma. My dentist saw me right away and assured me it was a salivary stone.

Dry mouth can cause the ducts to shrink and trap secretions that form stones. So it's important to stay hydrated, and if you're prone to these on CPAP, to make sure you're not mouth breathing.

And if you're not sure what the cause of swelling is, get to a dentist ASAP, because it is very possible for melanomas to grow in mucosal tissues.
