CMS-50D Plus

Post by barker109 » Sun Jun 10, 2012 12:37 pm

Hi Folks,
Another newbie here!

I have a question. I bought the above mentioned plus oximeter and did my first reading last night. I had the oximeter taped on my finger. When I ran the program this morning everything went off with no hitch. My question is about the accuracy of the tool. My lowest pulse rate registered at 38 which I just can't believe. It freaks me out!!!!! My average plus was 64 which coinsides with my sleep study. Anybody else ever get this type of reading? Any possible caused anyone is aware of???

Thanks in advance for all response

mine is dead on accurate. don't complain if your pulse went that low. that's good. double check it over several nights. if you don't have a good fit on the oximeter the reading could be off if it moves back and forth. it can also be too tight. i use a rubberband toward the middle and not too tight.

Hi barker109! Welcome!!
My pulse frequently goes that low and my cardiologist said no problem. I also compared my 50D Plus to their unit and pleased to see that they got the same readings although the 50D Plus was a little slower to register changes.

I regularly drop to the 35 - 40 range during sleep. I was told to be concerned if your pulse rate drops below 30.

I believe mine has something to do with my "athletic physique..."

I have the same oximeter. I have three or four low spikes between 38 and 42 every night. They are just spikes and never last long and they don't coincide with any events. I figure the device shifts around on my finger or maybe my heart skips a beat occasionally but I don't worry about it.

I've also had one report that my blood oxygenation dropped to zero for a second. It was 95% immediately before and after. Given the physical implausibility, I assume it is measurement error, possibly due to me moving my hand in my sleep.

Thank you all for the feedback! I feel relieved. A 35 pulse rate sounded really low to me but if I'm not alone I won't worry. I will try several nights to see if my readings are consistent. I do move a lot and thought that might be the cause for the low reading.

By the way, the rubberband is an excellent idea!!!!!!

Thanks again,
Karen

Tape or a rubber band can be too tight and reduce the blood flow and pressure to your finger. I found a clean sock over my hand w/the oximeter sensor on it worked just fine. Kept the sensor on but no excess pressure on the finger.

A sock! Maybe I should try that, as last night, my first proper night with this oximeter, I woke with a sharp burning sensation on the top of the finger where the LEDs are. Any others have this discomfort???? I had the same thing with the professional oximeter during the initial tests a year ago.
By the way the batteries are recording empty after about 8 hours use. And another strange one was that the O2 level was fine all night but for one brief dive down to 70%.

make sure to have it as loose as you can, giving it as little extra pressure as you can. keep the rubberband as far toward the pivot point as you can.
