Nose Pillow slips

Post by SLP Guy » Thu Jun 07, 2012 8:16 am

I use the Ayr Nasal Gel to give me a good seal, which does just fine as I go to sleep on my back. But when I move to my side, I almost always get an air leak, which wakes me up. This happens several times a night, which is identical to my original apnea. I've been using the cpap for about three months now, and can't figure out how to either sleep only on my back, or adjust the straps to give me a solid fit all night. Anyone know of a better gel to get a more solid seal? Or is there another trick to get through the night without waking up?

Please go back up to the user control panel and fill in as much about your equipment that you know, so that members can offer suggestions for your malady.
I use the Swift Lt pillows mask and have absolutely no issues with leaking. If you have a properly fitted pillows mask, then you should not need any gels or ointments to help make a good seal.

I use an unscented baby wipe on both the mask and my honker.
I repeat if necessary if the night is hot and I sweat.
Some use a tiny smear of Lansinoh--(purified lanolin for nursing moms) --it's sticky.

Yeah. Lansinoh rules. First I clean my face with soap etc, then I use a super tiny smear like chunkyfrog mentioned, and I do mean tiny. When I first started using it I was slathering it all over the place. Big mistake, my nasal pillows would end up the side of my head! Here's how I judge the correct amount: Squeeze the pretty lavender tube until the ointment just visibly rises above the rim. It barely amounts to any at all but that's just enough to provide a 'tacky' feel to my nose. If my nostrils feel at all slippery I wipe some away until I get that tacky sensation. It's $14 a tube however at the rate I use it, it should last a year or so.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not officially signed up, so I'll go back and fill out what kind of cpap I'm using.
