New Respironics Comfortlite 2 Nasal Pillows

Post by SleepDaddy » Thu Mar 16, 2006 9:52 pm

Looks like Respironics is finally getting into the act with a nasal pillows mask that looks alot like the Aura.

Will be interested in trying this one out.

Any idea when this will be available? It looks really interesting--the headgear looks more comfortable than the Aura. I did a search on Google and couldn't find it on any site but Respironics.

john5757:

Thanks for providing the link to your original post, I must have missed it!

Ted "the Titrator" seems to indicate that he really likes the new interface, so I am anxious to hear his full review.

Respironics has definitely been losing out to other suppliers, so I would hope they put quite a lot of effort into designing an interface that works well and is comfortable.

I have only had my Swift for a month or so, so I will have to wait a bit before I can try out something new. The Swift works well, but I do get some leaks when I roll over on my side. Having the hose in the front is an appealing way to solve that issue. Not sure about the headgear though. Seems like the forehead piece is pretty substantial. I am in the "the less that is touching my head the better camp".

In looking at the images CPAP.com has posted, I can't really see what the difference is between the ComfortLite 2 Nasal Pillow option and the "Direct Seal" option. They look somewhat similar to me. Can anyone explain the difference and why one might be better than the other?

It looks a lot like the original comfort lite. I had one of those and it was almost great (a few major problems mad it unusable). If they fixed the problems, this could be a good choice.

Sleep Daddy,

I think one interface is a pillow interface and the other more of a prong interface. Swift v. Nasal Aire but I'm only guessing. That is what it looks like.

Respironics does not specifically mention compatibility with their APAP machines; I suppose, as with thier Comfort Curve that this will also be compatible with the APAP machine.

I wonder how this compares noise-wise with the Headrest by Aeiomed.

The close up pictures on cpap.com show 5 rows of vent holes on the nasal pillows interface. This either will make it quieter due to spreading the venting over more ports....or noiser due to the opportunity for more ports to whistle, etc.....this sounds like an excellent question for a physics class...at a given pressure, will more vent holes make less noise than fewer vent holes?

I can't really see what the difference is between the ComfortLite 2 Nasal Pillow option and the "Direct Seal" option. They look somewhat similar to me.
They are very similar with one big difference. The direct seal just touches the nares with no part of it entering the nostril. While this can give a good fit (I've had 2 Comfort-Lite's) it is prone to a bit of seal instability if you roll around alot.

The new nasal pillow looks very similar, but has pillows that have a larger seal area and, enter slightly into your nostrils. This new pillow is like the Breeze pillows, and, I hope, will be more stable than the direct seal due to the small bit that enters your nostrils.

I've been a fan of the original Comfort-Lite and really hope that this new Comfort-Lite 2 will be an improvement.
