anyone have this happen and know what to do about it? without cpap, i find it incredibly hard to get to sleep without meds but sleep forever and through anything once i fall asleep. with cpap, the meds give me headaches upon awakening and make me feel trashed for a few hours. so i've given up the meds i was not taking a lot-- .5 of halcion. now the cpap is working but i only sleep a few hours and wake up with tons of energy. then about 12 hours later i feel like i'm going to crash. went to bed at midnight tonite feeling like a zombie i was so mentally exhausted. but woke up at 2 a.m and haven't been able to go back to sleep in three hours. i'm about ready to go to sleep, but this is real havoc. make any sense?

That does remind me of the beginning of CPAP, but you should be aware that sleeping-drug withdrawal can create havoc with your sleep in any case, and should be done gradually.
Halcion is a short acting benzodiazepine (called triazolam).
Please go to http://www.benzo.org.uk - it is full of information, and might give you insight and leads to further info.
Here's a definition of "rebound insomnia" - "waking during the night or waking too early in the morning, and having trouble falling back to sleep".
Its possible that this is what you're going through now.
The definition is from:
http://www.benzo.org.uk/breggin.htm
"De Tullio, Kirking, Zacardelli and Kwee (1989) reviewed the charts of 72 adult male patients taking triazolam for sleep through an ambulatory Veterans Administration clinic. Thirty-nine of the patients were available for telephone interviews.
Most of the patients were elderly (aged 60 or older) and almost all received 0.25 mg. Of the thirty-nine patients interviewed, only 4 reported no adverse effects and 23 experienced more than one. The most common were dizziness, rebound insomnia, and nightmares.
Rebound insomnia was defined as waking during the night or waking too early in the morning, and having trouble falling back to sleep. "

snoredog--i could eat the whole bottle of melatonin and i don't think it would have an effect. thanks.
i've been functioning, not terrifically, on a few hours sleep because i've had a job interview for a job i'd really like, so when that happens, i get so wound up from the anxiety that i go through the stratosphere, and then i really can't sleep. had to have a big cry earlier tonite to break the tension to get a few hours of sleep.
