I use the Ruby red Adjustable Chinstrap

Post by jlmoorekcmo » Thu May 10, 2012 8:33 am

I use the Ruby Red Adjustable, originally got the XL. because I was right on the line. It seemed a little big & as the seams stretched just seemed too big. I ordered the standard size & it now seems too tight when first put on, & the Velcro fastener even cut or abraised a small "cut" on top of my head. I guess I'm going to keep using it & hope it stretches a little. I got the XL on Amazon, & the standard size on CPAP.com

The Ruby chinstraps do seem to be one extreme or the other. I have the same problem when I fit patients..the XL Adj seems to big then the next adjustable seems too small. They are good chinstraps though.
I am guessing you have tried other types of chinstraps and they did not work. We use the Respironics premium chinstrap as well and they do ok. The ref# on it is 1012911.

Actually, These are the first Chinstraps I've tried. May try others if they don't work out. Hesitant though because of lack of funds.

I'm starting to be a broken record here but I like the deluxe chinstrap because it is elastic and while it holds my chin and mouth I can open my mouth to talk if I really want/need to. It is adjustable and very cost efficient. My last was purchased on Amazon for $12 with free shipping. I bought one from our hosts also.

I have now looked at several different chin straps. I am wondering why there have to be so many straps. For example, you have the chin strap pieces. Then you have the straps from the mask. Why on earth doesn't one of these companies come up with a chinstrap that the mask can attach to also? Seems like a simple fix for people who wear a nose mask and do not want or can not fit a full face mask.

You can reduce the stretch in a chinstrap by washing it in worm water, I think, b/c that's the reason that I stopped washing them.

It seems to me that the "Ruby" chinstrap is replicated by several makers. My chinstrap which looks like the "Ruby"
has a name on it of CareFusion. Reorder No. TMS-09-1ADJXL (adjustable extra large). I can get it at Amazon with this number, or call (216) 521-1220. It's a bit too large for me. My vertical head circumference (under the chin to top of head) is 26". I probably need a "Large" size. An alternative is to tuck and staple the extra material on the top of the head.

Pur-Sleep claims on thier website to be working on a PapCap chinstrap that will hook up to a mask to eliminate headgear.

From thier website:
"The PLUS model, currently in development, will allow for the replacement of certain headgear types by directly connecting the cap to the mask using hook and loop connectors."
