1st night on S9 Auto but ...
Hello all,
I set up my S9 auto and used it for the first time last night. I set it on auto mode rather than cpap mode. I got ready for bed, took my pills and fell asleep within 30 minutes, but for some reason was woken 3.5 hours later and could not get back to sleep. I would like to continue to use it tonight but am reluctant due to work tomorrow so may go back to my rental PR. Any advice?
Thank you in advance for any tips.
Thank you,
Emeraude

Re: 1st night on S9 Auto but ...
Do you think the S9 woke you ?
My advice: do what works for you.
Personally I have been very impressed by the S9 (only on it for 4 days approx) and that (being impressed) has been completely unexpected. I have been using an S8 since December 2005, and I just did not expect there to be much difference..
I am also new to the FX nasal - was previously on Swift-2 nasal - interestingly he sizes are a bit different.

I am going to guess that 3.5 hours of sleep with cpap therapy may be as good or better than 6 hours of non-cpap therapy for a person that has OSA. With this in mind, keep going. It is normal for a person to awaken and having difficulty going back to sleep after starting cpap therapy. You will eventually get used to wearing a mask and sleeping soundly. Before you know it, the thought of not wearing the mask at night will frighten you.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the S9. What's your unit set on?
Yes, I think the S9 woke me as I generally sleep soundly for 6 to 6.5 hours on my regular machine. I've been using my rental for the last 5 years and have been sleeping very well, not waking up at all through the night.
Cheers,
Emeraude

Sorry, I should have been clearer in my explanation earlier today, but was at work and didn't have enough time. I've been using my M Series Auto for the last 5 years, up to the night before. I have not had any problems with it to-date. Thanks for the input anyway.

What were the auto settings you used? It could be that the pressures are too wide and you woke from a change in pressure since you are not used to that yet. You can look at the data, as that might give you some clues.
Meanwhile, you can use this on weekends until you get this dialed in and go back to your old machine during the week.

my S9 is an autoset - I run it in auto mode. My S8 was also an auto. The EPR setting is new for me - as the S8 could not use EPR if it was in auto mode. I have been running it on an EPR of 3 so far - but the jury is out on that still (am leaning towards keeping it).
I graph using resscan and also sleepyhead - and if I want to know about the actual *sleep* - eg wake, REM, deep, etc.. - on those nights I use my ZEO as well.

I have set my machine the same as yours. EPR is on 3 as well. I'll give in another go on the weekend and will look at the data at that time.
Cheers,

But at what pressure? If it is set 4-20 and you need 12 then it will take too long to get up there. Your settings need to be close to what you need. If you normally need 12 then set it to 10-20.emeraude wrote: shb,

Re: 1st night on S9 Auto but ...
I'm about three weeks into my CPAP treatment with my S9 and have been having the same issue. I went to bed at 11:00 PM last night and here I am at 2:30 AM. I don't think it's specific to my S9 for me. It's just general issues related to being connected to a tube and being used to rolling around a lot, though at least one time I was woken when a blanket or pillow got close to the vent on my Swift FX mask and the noise from the air woke me. I'm not sure if a different mask would have made any difference. The odd thing is the mask nor the pressure consciously bother me and I fall asleep pretty easily. I'm trying to get through the first month and hopefully give my body time to adjust. I don't use EPR and my pressure is a constant 7 which I don't even notice unless there's a leak.

Ramp is set at 20 minutes. Auto with Min. 4 and Max. 20. I went back on my regular machine last night and slept well for about 6 hours. I'll give it a go again on my weekend.
Thanks!

Re: 1st night on S9 Auto but ...
I would suggest your narrow the range. What is your 95th number? Use that or a one unit less as the minimum number, and you can keep maximum to 20.emeraude wrote: Ramp is set at 20 minutes. You also mentioned EPR doesn't work on your S8 in auto? If you had the S8 AutoSet II, that is incorrect. EPR does work in auto mode for that unit. And depending on your EPR setting, that would require adjustment in your settings.

It's currently set 4-20 so that could be the problem. I need 11.0 and will increase it. Thank you for the tip!:)

Re: 1st night on S9 Auto but ...
Hi all,
I had my second night on the S9 and slept for 4.5 hours, an improvement of an hour. The pressure setting is 5-15 at this time. I felt a little hard to breathe initially before dozing off though.
Cheers,
Emeraude

Some people need 6 or 7 to feel they can breathe. Try one higher tonite.emeraude wrote:Hi all,
