sleepyhead and pulse oximeters

Post by lcook7281 » Thu Apr 19, 2012 7:55 am

Which oximeters will work with Sleepyhead?
I know the CMS 50F, and the CMS 50D, and the ResMed overpriced one does. Any others? What about the CMS 50I?

Still looking for a better probe for my finger. I am even wondering if mine has just gone bad.

The "ResMed overpriced one does" is not true. I knew there was something I needed to do. fix software or mail hardware to jedimark.... neither is likely to get done... I've got sleep apnea!

Your O2 levels should start out close to 100% while active even if your in bad shape. If its not reading that... get a second option or replace the kit.

Not everyone's O2 levels are "close to 100%" even if in bad shape. With some cardiac conditions O2 levels can be significantly lower. 98% is a "typical" normal for a healthy adult. Down to 94% is considered still within "normal" limits. I use my pulse oximeter for "relative" values. I can see significant desaturations when I have an OA (below 90) whereas without an "event", it ranges from 94-99. If my heart condition is kicking up, I'll typically see 92-94 as a high. I do look at values between 92 and 96 with some skepticism and go by what I see on the oximeter at my doc's office.

ps I don't usually consider some inaccuracy as a good reason to go out and buy another pulse-ox.

It don't think mine is inaccurate, it is the fact that I feel like my finger is getting burned. I alternate fingers but some fingers the probe stays on better than others, that is why I am considering a replacement.

I bought my CMS-50F ($95) from here: http://www.door2doorshop.com/wholesale/ ... 0F-36.html

It is the real deal. Works great with Sleepyhead. Took about a Week to get after purchase.

Had good email communications with vendor too.

Lisa,

I had trouble with finger discomfort with a different, more expensive brand but have been very happy with my cms50 e or f pulseox. (can't remember which it is!). You're the only one who can really decide whether to go for a new one or not. Besides the discomfort, do the readings seem reasonable?

I bought the CMS-50i and it is fantastic.. I've written a small utility for my own personal use that extracts its data as a csv file - and its native format is quite easy to decode.
I can store multiple nights before you need to upload. Not sure the limit, as I don't use it every night - I currently have about 5 or 6 on there. Also, it has its own internal clock. The way it stores its data is: stores the start time - then it stores 3 data items for each second until you stop recording.

I've been using a resmed s8 since late 2005 and literally have been on my new S9 for just a couple nights.

I have the resscan and the sleepyhead software - and also a zeo -- but I am very new to sleepyhead (just 2 nights of data in it so far).
