H5i water chamber too small.

Post by VikingGnome » Tue Apr 17, 2012 8:41 pm

My ResMed H5i chambers doesn't hold enough water. I use it on AUTO and set temp at 80. It runs out of water in about 7 hours (but I usually sleep 9 hours). What can I do to make the water last longer without switching to MANUAL. It says the RAINOUT protection is not present when you use it on Manual.

On the S9 Auto, I believe, means that the humidity automatically adjusts. The temperature is the temperature of the heated hose. My DME changed the configuration on my S9 so it now has a humidity adjustment as well as a heat adjustment. If you have your DME change your S9 around you can adjust the humidity down to make the water last.

You can lower the temperature a few degrees. The higher the temperature the more water it uses. Also make sure you aren't mouth breathing with a nasal mask. That will drain the chamber quickly.

One of the ResMed S9 Autoset videos on the Cpap Library site shows you how to change your humidification levels. http://www.cpaplibrary.com/machine-education

Good luck!

My room tem is at 75 F at all times. I prefer the non-climate control hose. I set the Humidifier on 5. The water lasts for about 10 hours. I sleep for 7 hours. So there is always water left. If I take a nap I use the water left. If I was running out of water I would add some during the 2 to 3 peeing breaks that I have during the night.

I have a cheap little humidity gauge next to my machine.
If room humidity is very low, I may run low (or out).
If it happened very often, I would put a humidifier on the other side of the bedroom,
just to raise the moisture level in the room.
Since it's not often, I note the gauge reading at night, and keep extra water handy.
Running dry always wakes me up with the funny smell.
