If I think about this, the hypersomniacs should clean everyone's clock in this, right? I mean, if you win the ZEO WARS, and don't realize you have hypersomnia, maybe ya otta make an appointment to find out, eh?

Zackly!

The goal is to hit target, which I would say is 87:

OTOH, you can have some really messed up sleep and hit "target":

A part of my business is optimization and in reality most often one wants to hit a target, one must impose a bunch of constraints (limits) and the solution is usually at one or more constraints. While people think they would like to minimize somethings (eg., AHI) or maximize others (eg., ZQ), it's fun to watch our software come up with really goofball solutions that are valid, yet still not what you want, much like you pointed out. If a person does have multiple objectives, then "best" is hitting none of them, as it is always some compromise between competing objectives.

I'm thinking of buying a Zeo bedside, how often do you have to replace the head band? I've read that your required to replace it every 3 months.

Your mileage will vary. People will give you wide ranges. I think 3 months is approximate normal life. I got my Zeo Bedside about 4 months ago and I'm on my second band. I bought a pack of 3. I wash the sensor pad and head band from time to time, after removing the electronics that snap on to it, of course.

My best is a 106. It was during the kids Spring Break. I didn't have to get up at 7 every morning to get them off to school.

My overall average isn't bad either. My worst nights were when the headband didn't record all night. The zeo seems to love time in bed whether you are asleep or awake.
If I go to bed too early, I wake for an hour or so in the middle of the night.

In this projection of an Advanced Sleep Phase (and I will not call this Advanced Sleep Phase Disorder because it's only a Disorder if it's a problem, and this is one of the best sleepers I know) who also happens to be somewhat of a Short Sleeper (Four-Cycler):

66 is just fine, thank you very much.

Max thank you for the information. I'd probably get a little more than that cause I wouldn't use it every night. I already have enough stuff on my head when I go to sleep.

However, if a true "Short Sleeper" desires to assimilate himself into the aggregate Zeo database and not appear abnormal, they could employ the “Zeo Force Multiplier” as discussed by Dave Asprey. This correction factor will adjust the 8.5 hour Zeo base sleep time, accomplished by calculating (ZQ)(8.5/TSTindividual) = ZQcorrected.

Thus, in the Short Sleeper noted above, we can calculate (66)(8.5/6.0) = 93.5, and have a number that may be more significant to compare with the overall database.

Similarly, Long Sleepers could also employ this correction factor. In the above ZQ of 131, we see (131)(8.5) = 96.8.

Again, this might only be accurate (using the term loosely) in a normal Long Sleeper.

"IMHO", however, 11.5 hours of sleep with a 40% REM cannot be considered normal by any standard.

All this talk of high scores is annoying (mainly because mine tend to sit in the 65 - 75 range (my Zeo thinks I don't get much REM)). I'm curious about the lowest scores. I know I got 45 one night, but I'd need to check my records to see if that's the lowest I've seen.

I'd say don't worry about trying to get uber high scores because that could be caused by a disorder... abnormal. I think 70's is good, and being in an 80-90 range is very good and the best is, really, how you are feeling. We're all different, so our individual "good" sleep scores will vary. If I go over 90 I start feeling groggy again, probably over-sleeping. If I'm in the 60's I'm feeling not so rested. The ZQ is another metric that gives you information, the Zeo sleep stage chart gives you more information. You can use that to see how to improve, if you feel you need to improve.
