Had an incident with my machine tongiht...

Post by kgresgott » Fri Mar 23, 2012 2:50 am

I went to bed around 8pm. I woke up a couple of hours later, my machine was upside down on the floor, and water was gurgling in my hose and mask. I don't know what the heck happened. Every time I turned it on it gurgled so my husband took the hose and hung it up in the shower to dry out. I will inspect the machine later on this morning to see if there is any damage.

Wow! I wondered what you were doing up at such an ungawdly hour of the morning!!!

Most likely you turned over too roughly in your sleep, maybe dreaming you were in a wrestling match or something?? Or - do you have a dog or cat?

Do NOT turn your PAP on until you are sure it is totally dry!!! Just in case. That humidifier is SUPPOSED to be a "dry box". But better safe than sorry.

I wouldn't worry about the hose....it gets wet everytime you use your humidifier. The machine is another story. If water got inside, you may have ruined it .

Well this should be a good test as to the new PR S1 tanks and their ability to not leak into the blower when overturned. We know the old M Series models likely would have seen their electronics in the blower fried.

You might want to try the cell phone trick of putting it in a bag of rice for a day or two. It is supposed to draw out the moisture. But then not sure if the rice would damage the machine!

Well, if it's any comfort, the exact same thing happened to me. I grabbed a towel and immediately started getting the water out... luckily, I only fill the humidifier halfway and I don't think the water went far. I allowed it to dry out all day and used it again that night. It worked - I was lucky! Hope the same for you.

Try putting it on a rubber mat - like a child's place mat.

Thanks everyone, for the replies. Yep, I do have cats. Maybe they were the culprits, I don't know. I took out the water tank, and it didn't appear to have leaked. The mask was a little wet, though. Everything seems to be working fine. Hopefully I lucked out and didn't do any real damage. I'll find out tonight.

On the plus side, I remembered to switch out the little white filter on the back of the machine. I washed the little gray filter, too. Aren't I a good little newbie?

kgresgott,

I hope everything works out with the machine tonight! Not that I am trying to re-direct the cause of your machine ending up on the floor, but could it be possible that it was you instead of the cats? I don't know what length your hose is but if it is the standard 6 foot hose maybe try moving up to an 8 foot hose. I had two different times since starting PAP therapy that my machine almost ended up on the floor. Once without the humidifier (in the very beginning of my PAP journey) and once about 3 months ago with the humidifier. Both times I was awakened due to feeling that my mask was being pulled off of my face and looked down and saw the machine suspended just about 6 inches off of the floor (saved by the power cord, each time, catching on the corner of the end table I use for my machine). Since I went to an 8 foot hose I have not had any issues because of the extra 2 feet of hose gives me enough extra room to move around and not recreate the 'APAP on the tightrope" routine.

Of course, different hose set-ups would have different issues that may cause the machine to hit the deck. Again, good luck with your machine and I hope it doesn't ever happen again.

John

Hi John,
My hose isn't 6', its' smaller than that. I am 5'9 and it's not as 'tall' as me. Maybe that's the problem! It hasn't happened again, though. Maybe I was just having a restless night.
