location of CPAP to bed

Post by MKA » Wed Mar 14, 2012 12:49 pm

I've seen a few really much older posts (while reading through site) that have said that it is best to keep CPAP lower than bed level/just off of floor. Can someone explain to me why??? I understand there is something called "rain out" but not even sure what that means. SPLAIN LUCY!?!

If you don't have rainout why worry about it?

Just put the machine wherever it is comfortable for you.

If you do get rainout there are several things you can do to prevent it and relocating the CPAP below the level of your mattress is not first on the list.

Rain out is condensation in the hose or mask. Keeping the machine lower than bed lets gravity help with any water in the hose...runs downhill back to humidifier.

Seen more often during winter time when bedroom temps are cooler. Though not limited to winter.
Also depends on humidifier settings. In the hose the water makes an awful racket for such a little bit of water. Totally amazing the sounds... Highly annoying...when it happens in the mask we either snort water or get sprayed with a mist. If or when you ever get to experience it..then you deal with it depending on circumstances. Until then, don't worry about it.

Our very own form of waterboarding ourselves. You do wake up and want to do something to correct the problem
