AHI=0.0???

Post by Wodeshed » Tue Mar 13, 2012 12:41 pm

Wow. I hate to be the dumb guy; ordinarily I'm a pretty quick study.

I'm looking over my SleepyHead data from my ResMed S9 Escape Auto, and I get very little information. I see no events, such as AHI, and all I seem to be able to look at is my usage times. Here's a screen shot:

I'm trying to figure out if this is a really good result, or just not recording properly. Can anyone help? I'm feeling fairly good after using this thing for a couple of months, but my problem has been my mouth coming open. I've got a chin strap on order, which I'm hoping will correct the problem, but shouldn't that pressure loss show up someplace in these numbers?

The Escape models will only track compliance data. So that's roughly when you used the machine, how long, and what pressure. Sadly, they don't track the rest of the data most machines do :/

Yeah, when I had a machine that did not record that data, instead of saying no data it reported AHI as 0.0. If you're not savvy it can be very misleading.

Hey, thanks a lot for the replies.

That's what I wondered. I would have thought that my respiratory therapist (from the DME) would have known that, though. She was all impressed when I said that the AHI was 0.0. On the other hand, she ain't the sharpest hook in the tackle box.

It pretty much blows that this model doesn't track this stuff. You'd think that for $900 they'd manage to throw that in.

What really blows is that you and your insurance probably paid the same price for that "brick" as you would for a full-data machine.

If you can get your doc (or RT) to prescribe the EXACT machine you want, they will have to exchange it. Your insurance shouldn't care, as they pay the same for either one.

The S9 Escape Auto DOES record AHI...only total AHI no breakdown plus it records pressure.
I suspect the 0.0...is likely from the machine getting "stuck" reporting an erroneous number.
Try unplugging the machine from the the electric source for about a minute and plug back in..this forces the machines firmware to reboot...just like we reboot a computer to clear out cobwebs when it goes whacko..

It is highly unlikely that someone would have AHI of 0.0 all this time. So either the machine got stuck..OR there is an error in the sensing and reporting features.
Other S9 users have had this same problem 0.0 AHI....reboot fixed all but one that I know of.

You can check this product page to see that the Escape Auto will indeed record AHI..no leak or other stuff but it should give you AHI.
Now the plain S9 Escape...hours of use only.

http://www.resmed.com/us/products/s9_se ... nc=dealers
click on specifications...then the S9 Escape Auto...scroll down to the bottom and you will see that it records AHI and pressure.

I had the same problem with my DME, and my doctor wrote a RX listing the machine I have now so they had to swap it out. However that was in the first 2 weeks that I started CPAP, don't know how long you can wait to make it happen.

Thanks for the replies. I get the idea that this gizmo is supposed to record AHI, and that the operating system may be screwed up if it shows all zeros. Rebooting, though, is unlikely to be a solution, since I travel with it every week for work, so it gets rebooted frequently. You'd think that it would show some variation if the problem were in the operating system and resolved by rebooting, but according to the history AHI is a solid 0.0. Maybe I'm just doing great?

I am the one that had 0.0 AHI and a reboot and a new machine did not solve the problem. However, when my Dr. upped the pressure, the machine started recording.
I got the original machine Jan 6 and the new machine on Jan 26. Pressure on both machines was 13/7. On Jan 30, the pressure was changed to 14/8. Now it is recording just fine after one more day of not recording. Was the pressure too low or the events too high? Now that I have had my 60 day checkup, I will try lowering the pressure to see what happens. I raised my pressure to 14/9 and now it is 14/10.
