Cough/crud/... in the morning ?
Been on cpap 5 nights... notice I don't try to cough up my lungs like before in the morning before cpap... no more crud and mucus... what is the connection?

Probably acid reflux. The apneas seem to cause it. Your oesophagus protects itself by secreting mucus. I had the same reaction - all those years I thought I had sinus problems and it turned out to be GERD.USMC1968 wrote:Been on cpap 5 nights... notice I don't try to cough up my lungs like before in the morning before cpap... no more crud and mucus... what is the connection?

I'm a long-time GERD sufferer. You don't cough up crud in the morning. You puke up burning bile whenever. There's a difference. My guess is OP is coughing up crud because of improved breathing and the lungs are better stimulated to purge that crud You breathe deeper and better while on CPAP. This was my experience. It will level out over time to the point you won't notice.

The added moisture in the humidified air may be helping keep the passageway and cilia in the lungs better hydrated...better hydrated means less irritation...less irritation can mean less coughing.

No just because we don't have it at that level doesn't mean we don't have it. It is not an all or nothing thing. Yes there is bile, especially after you finally throw up from the coughing but the mucus is there to protect and it is the mucus that triggers the coughing.Carl LaFong wrote:I'm a long-time GERD sufferer. And no it didn't level out, it stopped dead in its tracks the morning after the first night.

Ok, your GERD is bigger than mine.
'Nuff said.
