Hello people,
I have to decide on the purchase of an automatic CPAP machine with humidifier and easy exhalation.
I found ResMed S9 AutoSet™ CPAP Machine ($ 1,072.00) versus
Respronics PR System One REMstar Auto CPAP Machine with A-Flex ($ 619 - yes WITH humidifier). (CPAP.com prices).
Why the big difference for machines with the same functions. Any restrictions against PR S1?
S9 is so much better that way? It's worth the higher cost?
What do you recommend for a beginner? I do not mind the look of the machine!
Thank you all.

Re: Auto S9 x PR S1 - BIG price diference????
in the end they both blow air, which the objective is. i use the prs1 and am quite pleased with how it works and the data i get from sleepyhead. i have no reason in the world to go look at or think about buying an s9 just because a majority of people in an on-line forum talk about it. majority opinion in a little group does not equal superior anything. apap's are like cars and tv's and computers in a sense. each has good and bad points and people usually develop strong brand loyalties. and with cars, tv's, computers and apap's, the devil's in the details. the bells and whistles sell equipment. i say stay within your budget. you'll be quite happy with either one. just as with cars, a ford gets there just as fast as a cadillac. personally i'm much more concerned about getting a good mask fit than which machine to use.

Resmed does not allow anyone that sells their equipment to discount the prices.
So that is the main reason for the huge price difference. They must be sold at the MSRP or ResMed won't ship them to online sellers.
I have used both brands. They both have a couple of very minor pros and cons. They both offer excellent therapy and I think that most people would do well with either. In all honesty I like them both pretty much equally.
Main difference was that the PR S1 machines didn't have a heated hose for the humidifier...the ResMed S9 machines do... but now the PR S1 machines have a new model that has a heated hose.
Brand new model
https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/pr-sy ... -tube.html $649... Only $30 more that the previous model of this APAP. Eventually all the PR S1 models will have this heated humidification system. No way to buy the older and upgrade...we have to get a whole new machine and humidifier.....the new stuff is not compatible with the old machine or humidifier.

Re: Auto S9 x PR S1 - BIG price diference????
I wasn't sure which machine to get either, but I chose a USED S9 from secondwindcpap for $625. An "open box" NEW S9 is $799. A PR S1 was $369.
I am a dork; I liked the look of the S9 better, plus the screen shows smiley faces and you can buy a "skinit" to decorate it. I figured if I was going to have it for 5 years or so I would get the one I really wanted.
I haven't actually gotten it yet; expecting it either Wed or Thurs this week. I am SO looking forward to it; hoping I feel a change soon after starting. I know it can take a while to get the hang of it but I'm optimistic.
I think either machine would be fine.
Good luck!
Heather

Re: Auto S9 x PR S1 - BIG price diference????
I haven't had the opportunity to use a Resmed S9. HOWEVER ...
I've been fortunate to have had the opportunity thru the years to use a Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage as well as a Respironics pre-M Series Auto AND a Resmed S8 VPAP Auto AS WELL AS a PR SystemOne BPAP Auto. My preference is for the Resmeds SIMPLY BECAUSE they have always excelled in the ease of access to and amount of data available via the LED screen. I've gotten as good therapy w/one brand as w/the other.
If my insurance were buying I would go w/the Resmed, if I were paying out of pocket I would go w/the Philips Respironics.
