What to order and suggestions re: sensitive skin/rosacea
Hi All,
Tomorrow, I go to the "guy that orders the equipment". My doc says I need to fill out some paperwork and I can put requests on it. They may not be fulfilled but I might as well try.
What are your suggestions for machines and accessories?
I have moderate OSA.
Also, those with sensitive skin or rosacea, do you have any particular hints, tips or tricks you follow?
Thank you.

I'm not a doctor. It's my personal opinion.

If you're going with a nasal or full faced mask, get a mask liner, there's a variety of places that you can get them including from padacheek.com

I have Rosacea too. I am happy with the ResMed Swift FX mask. It has minimal face contact and washable soft cloth pads where it touches your checks. I chose the Phillips Respironics Auto CPAP with A-Flex. Using the A-Flex has proven to be an effortless transition. The machine adjusts to me rather than me adjusting to the machine. You will want the optional humidifier and the optional Encore software to review your progress and statistics. Sleeping is my new favorite activity.
Good Luck,
Alvin

I have very bad rosacea, however I can't find any connection at all with the use of a CPAP. I use a nasal pillows and it is not touching my rosacea area. Now a full face mask will be another story. It is going to put pressure on the areas of my rosacea which I do not intend to make happen.

You didn't say what your titration pressure is but to say that you have moderate apnea seems to me that you will be able to handle a nasal pillows style ok. They are usually less leak proof and ar much lighter weight. THey also work better is your are a side sleeper. The Resmed Swift FX and LT designs are lightweight and I believe that they also make the same mask in a ladies version. If you decide on the nasal mask style, go ahead and tell "THE GUY" to give you a chin strap..It will help keep your mouth closed, so that all the air will be going down your wirway instead of out your mouth.

I have rosacea as well and my face didn't do well with any silicon parts touching it. I use a PR System one Auto CPAP with a comfortgel blue nasal mask. I've tried to find pillows I like, but I just don't tolerate them. I had some issues at first and went to the RemZZZZZ liners. They work GREAT because most of mine is on my right cheek and it pads it well. I started making my own liners using the Remzzzz as a template and cut them out of men's white t-shirts. They work great and I am very pleased. It also cuts down on the leaking I get around the bottom of my nose.
Depending on what mask you go with, you may want to consider the padacheek products for for anything that touches your face, attachment straps for nasal/face masks and forehead pad. It not only cuts down on the skin irritation, it cuts down on the marks.
I agree with the poster that says ask for the world because they can always say no. Make sure your doc writes for an auto machine and you should be fine going with either the PR System one machine and the resmed.
Good luck,
Jenn

I have very sensitive skin too - really awful with tape of any kind!
I use a nasal pillow (see my mask link below) that has nice little cloth covers for the side straps so nothing else really touches my cheeks. It has worked well with no problems. I also use Ivory liquid to wash my mask, hose & water tank daily. It doesn't irritate me like other soaps would.

Padacheeks has all sorts of comfort products.

I use the barrel cozy for my mask. Bought it to help with rain out last year and immediately decided it was so darn comfortable I have used it every night ever since.
Not the the nasal pillows were a problem because they weren't. Sometimes things that are useful for one thing happen to be comfy also.
Make sure you know which machines offer full data. You will want full data and not just hours of use because you already have a clock for that. Please read this about which machine offers data and which do not.

and this if you haven't already

The 2 main brands here on this forum are Respironics and ResMed with a good number of DeVilbiss users and a few Fisher & Paykel users.
If you can use the nasal pillow mask....it is the least amount of "stuff" on your face. Check out the one I use if you are interested. Link is in my profile. It has over the head straps as well as just the loops around the ears. There are several nasal pillow mask models available.
Good luck and welcome to the forum.

I would check out the Sleep Weaver mask if you prefer a nasal mask. It is a very soft material. I recommended it for a patient who seemed to be very allergic to everything else. She used it and was successful.
