Philips PR System 1 Burnt Motor Smell

Post by melb3000 » Fri Mar 09, 2012 3:42 pm

I've only had my PR one machine for 6-7 months or so and it started making a loud sound then occasionally would blast a burnt smell down the tube which i thought nothing of until it did it permanently So i took it in for service and they said they replaced the blower.

So my question is simple - is that foul burning smell, which i assume is the motor getting out of alignment and hitting the side, toxic? And if it is should I take the old unit back? What about the hose?

Appreciate if there is an expert out there on this.

Did you run it out of water during those nights?
It's been reported that people who have their humidifier turned up too high and ran out of water in the HH tank during the night have had similar experiences (smelling something burned).
I seriously doubt that it would be the blower motor of a relatively new machine.

Dry tank doesn't smell like burning to me; more like a sweaty sock.

I'm 100% sure it was inside the unit because you can plug it in sans-humidifier and it emits the same smell - i did it at the Philips Sleep Center and the staffer couldn't stand to leave it on! I took good care of the unit also so i just suspect it is one of the 1% that are faulty.

thinking to myself...... great!!!! something else to worry about because i have no sense of smell. it's great because you don't smell farts, but bad because you don't smell smoke or spoiled food. LOL.........
