New Oximeter, CMS50F

Post by NewBMW » Thu Mar 08, 2012 10:45 am

I have just received my CMS50F Oximeter and installed the software. The release notes say this software is tested for the 50D and assumes it will work with subsequent models. One problem I have seen with the installation/operation of the software is the readings in the SP02 and Pulse windows at the bottom of the Oximetery Tab for SleepyHead are reversed. The graphs show my pulse at 75 and SPo2 at 98; however, the boxes at the bottom have the two reversed, that is my SPo2 is shown as 75 and my pulse at 98.

Also, I do not know what the top graph, Plethy, tells me. It looks like some sort of BP measurement going from a high of 76 to a low of 20. I have not found an explanation on the Sleepyhead Wiki.

I am still learning how to download, etc

I can't help with the reversal aspect, but the Plethy is the waveform you see on the display as you are wearing the device. On my CMS 50E it is only available to get on your computer when running "tethered" (device is plugged into the cable, which is plugged into the computer). I'm not sure what units are for the magnitude, but it is undoubtedly the signal detected by the device as it watches the light through your finger and is related I think to the blood ebbing and flowing through your fingertip, which again is related to your pulse pressure (pulse strength) and thus flow. That is, if it goes flat for an extended period and you pass out, it's not a good thing (wink). My wife has cardiac issues and when she skips beats or has a significant arrhythmia, it's an interesting thing to watch. You see, her's does go flat and she does pass out (or nearly so) from time to time (sheesh!). I wish my unit would record that "untethered", but I think it takes too much RAM in the device than the manufacturer wants to spend or fit in there physically.

OK, thanks

The plethy on the 50F also works only when directly connected

So far, the only way I have been able to see the graphs in SleepyHead is import them in SP Review, save the file and open it in SleepyHead. Each time I try to import directly in SleepyHead, the program locks up at about 4% download. Perhaps I am missing something.

I have not done the CMS 50F overnight yet and will do so tonight.

Thanks again for your help.

Lee

I just got my CMS 50F and don't see how I save my data after uploading it (or find it if it's automatically saved). Also want to save a summary graph and don't see an option to save. Can someone help w that?

When I use SPO2Review to import my recorded overnight data, it auto saves my data into:
C:\Program Files (x86)\SpO2\Data
which on your computer, might be:
C:\Program Files\SpO2\Data
(I have Windows 7, 64 bit)

In there you will hopefully see files, including a "SPOR" file and a CSV, one per "session". The SPOR file you probably cannot read. It is a special format. The CSV has the pulse ox data, but alas they do not time stamp it. It looks like this...

SPO2 PULSE
96 77
96 77
96 77
96 78
96 78
...

I think by default the files are hidden. If they are you have to change that in properties.

The SP02 and pulse is reversed for data from my CMS50D+ also. Probably just a glitch that wasn't caught during testing.

can someone make a suggestion on a recording oximeter for my needs? this will be a nice to have thing that i will use occasionally to check our stats overnite, not every night. i'm looking for something cheap, but not cheap junk that don't work. i want it to come with software so i can put it in the computer and incorporate into sleepyhead. i don't need wireless and don't have bluetooth. in other words i'm looking for the most for the money on the low end. i have a non-recording oximeter. i''m thinking the one i'm looking for is in this thread. i just can't decide what would be best for me. thanks.

I too, am retired Air Force -- 1968 -- I bought this CMS 50F based on posts I saw on this blog. It was $160 as I recall. I've only had it for a couple of days but it looks sturdy and as soon as I learn its quirks, I'll be better qualified to make recommendations. But so far, so good.

I'm in a similar place to you. The 50I looks like it might do the trick but I'm trying to find out more about it. It seems to allow for multiple recording sessions. May not work with Sleepyhead yet.
