Mask experimentation without insurance

Post by tomhole » Sun Mar 04, 2012 10:50 am

I'm working on getting Tricare to pay for my CPAP kit, but as any of you folks know, finding someone that takes Tricare has gotten somewhat problematic these days. In the meantime, I am trying new masks on my own dime through cpap.com and return insurance.

I currently have the Mirage Quattro full face mask. Seems to fit well enough, but to keep the leaks down at the pressures I'm using (10-16), it needs to be snug. That results in some discomfort after removing the mask.

So I ordered a set of Swift FX nasal pillows. I thought I was a mouth breather, but now that I'm on CPAP, I don't snore and don't seem to mouth breath. So, I'm hoping the nasal pillows will work and be more comfortable.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Tom

If you are going to wear the Mirage Quattro snugly (as I do), I recommend a mask liner. (http://www.padacheek.com) It keeps the seal from leaving red marks on your face & helps with leaks (in my opinion). I use it in combination with an anti-leak strap.

Even with those pressures you do not need to wear the quattro snug. I use a padacheeks mask liner and still have the mask "floating" on my face. I rarely get leaks and the mask is comforable with my pressure at a straight 11.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.
