CPAP battery-operated - multi-night camping - carrying all

Hi everyone

Several of us would like to hear from everyone who has battery operated CPAP and carries it all in a backpack (for camping whilst bushwalking etc. for several nights). We would like to know about machines, quality/effectiveness, hours of sleep per battery, all-up weight. And more!
I am interested in Transcend II (Somnetics), but people seem to be so put off by their add showing you can wear it on your head (!!!), that we are not getting useful information!

Intellipap units have DC capabilities, and are decent back up machines.--a better buy.
Warranties are now up to 5 years on some models.

dont get the polarity wrong like I did and fry the Intellipap, it has no fuse within it, they suggest using their cigarette lighter adapter which does have a fuse in it.

It's a lot harder to get enough battery to run your CPAP machine a few nights than many people think. Study it carefully, and be sure to try it out at home before you really need it. Don't think you can use solar power either. It would take a large solar array to provide enough power during the day to run your machine all night, and you'd have to be stationary and have the panels in the sun for most of the day.

If you remove the humidifier, most common CPAPs aren't that large compared to the "travel" machines. Consider also the size of the hose and mask.

ResMed machines require a DC-DC converter. Respironics use DC directly and just require a cable.

I can get about 3 full nights on the battery CPAP combo. The battery pack weighs about 12.5 lbs. I bought them both from secondwind cpap for a total of about $500 delivered. I like having a second CPAP so I am not taking my primary CPAP into the woods and weather.

I have the Transcend II and I love it. I've used it two nights consecutively on one battery charge so far. It's utterly silent (if you don't have the HME waterless humidification system). I don't wear it on my head, but I have kept it on the corner of the bed next to my pillow with absolutely no problems. My next big test of it will be the 15-hour flight from Dubai to DC (I've never had more than 3 hours' sleep on a long flight).

My only complaint, as you might have guessed, is the waterless humidification system. It's so loud that it actually gives me sleep apnea...I hold my breath until I physically have to inhale, which produces a loud sucking noise that my wife says is as loud and annoying as my window-rattling snore. So I just use it without humidification, with my Puritan Bennett nasal pillow set-up, which I've loved for more than a decade.

I have a P8 battery for a Transcend unit. While the system works well on mains power, I am only getting about 8 hours on the P8 battery which has a claim of 14-16hrs. I am currently in conversation with Transcend but initially they claim the battery is not being charged fully. I would be interested if other people are not getting the claimed 14-16hrs from the P8 battery

I also have a P8 and the best time I could get out of the battery is 10 hours. I am looking to see what others are getting with their system.
