"A Philips Respironics data card was not found"

Post by ameriken » Thu Mar 01, 2012 8:04 pm

I've been using the Mako Infineer reader for my Encore Pro smart card. Everything was working great until about a month ago when i got the above message. I keep getting the same message every single time and have not been able to access the card eversince.

Since the card reader is not cheap, I figured I'd try a getting a new smartcard first in case maybe it somehow got erased. The card arrived today I'm getting the same message "A Philips Respironics data card was not found". The card reader is only about 6 months old and according to windows, it is all loaded and working and the drivers are ok.

Any suggestions?

Try updating the driver software for the DT3500. Sometimes the software "forgets".

Thanks pugsy, I downloaded and updated it and I still get the same message. I'm beginning to think the reader died.

Does the card reader light up at all? Try doing the pencil erasure thing to the gold box on the smart card...clean it a bit. Double check that the smart card is inserted properly.. I spent half a day once jumping through all sorts of hoops and I had the card in upside down..
You know it might also be the smart card itself....

Which version of Encore are you using now? Encore (Pro and Viewer) do contain the driver software but most of the time that software is way too old for the new computers.
I know of one other person that had this happen to her and the update didn't work so she went back and reinstalled the "old" driver software and then it worked. That was only one person though.

Yes, as i mentioned initially, it's a brand new card. Been playing around with the card and it lights up green, but i do have to fiddle with it a bit. After a few secs, it turns red.

I may uninstall and reinstall the software and see what happens, though I'll probably lose all my previous data. Short of that, the only other thing i can think of is the reader itself is shot, in which case it's more bucks. ugh.

Plug the card reader into a different USB slot and see what happens.

That sounds more like the driver. Delete it a re-install ONLY the driver, you don't need to do the whole software package.

Isn't there a setting in Encore to check for SmartCard or SD?

I wonder if the card needs to be formatted.

Come to think about it, this is what is going on with my card, and why I haven't looked much at data (machine seems to be doing a good job, though). I have always thought I may be using it with an underpowered computer (netbook).

Pugsy sent me the card utility, which has allowed me to save the data, format the card, etc which I did. At least this tells me the card reader is working....

Can I get that card utility of which you speak? I can put the card in the viewer software and it acts like it reads it, but says there is no patient data on the card. if i put it in either the 32 or 64 bit version of windows 7, I get "A Philips Respironics data card was not found" and if I put it back in the machine it starts beeping with a c-6 error. I think I've prolly fried it, but figure I will try the utility as a last resort.

Thanks!

I sent you a private message.

For anyone wanting this card utility program....I have to send it as an attachment. Some email services won't deliver it because it contains an executable file..duh... gmail will bounce it back.
Yahoo and AOL don't seem to have a problem. This is an old program and may not work on Win 7 64 bit computers. It is a small zipped file. We used to use it back when the Respironics machines only had the Smart cards.

So if anyone wants this card utility...send me a private message with your private email address and I will send it out. I can't do it through the forum messaging system.

If it doesn't work...I am clueless as to how to make it work. There is no support for it anywhere that I know of. The website that I got it from long ago is no longer active.

I finally can read my reports again, I had to install the viewer on another computer. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it on my original computer, and it would not reinstall properly. Grrr. Anyhow, all is well now, thanks everyone for your help.

My heart goes out to those who cannot use Sleepyhead and are stuck using anything with the old "SmartCards". Tho I will say it again, I have yet to see a SmartCard go bad. They can be corrupted if removed while they are written to. Kinda like the floppy disks of days gone by. Or it can be a setting in Encore is not set to USB, etc.

fwiw - I couldn't get the MyCpap working with Win7 Ultimate. I do think it is best to use these programs and utilities with the VERSION of Windows they were designed to work with.

As Ken found out if the if the MyCPAP Card utility that means the card, reader, and driver are ALL working.
I found a couple threads that some might find useful. Below is a link to the MS Cleanup Utility I mentioned.

I know there are posts on here regarding this exact problem. I have NOT searched for these posts myself.

I have NOT used this utility and only point out that it does exist -

When you are working on your computer and installing a new program, the installation suddenly fails. Now you are left with a partly installed program. You try to install the program again, but you are unsuccessful. Or, maybe you have problems trying to remove an old program because the installation files are corrupted.

Do not worry. Windows Installer CleanUp Utility might be able to help. You can use the utility to remove installation information for programs that were installed by using Windows Installer. Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.

Download Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
We have updated Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. This version of Windows Installer CleanUp Utility works correctly in all 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows. If you have an earlier version installed on your computer, we recommend that you download and install this latest version.

Good Luck,

ps. the other option is to format & re-load or have you tried using another computer?
