Mirage Quattro Leak Question

Post by jlhog » Fri Feb 24, 2012 12:08 pm

I was doing pretty good with my mask until a few days ago. I started getting the unhappy face on my machine indicating leaks. I have tried to readjust everything several times, but it still is leaking. I have lost about 12 lbs in the last month and wonder if that could have any difference in the way the mask fits? Today I was trying some things and noticed if I put my finger over the vent holes at the nose bridge I get the happy face back indicating no leaks. So my second question is. Can I put tape over the vent without any problem?
Improved built-in vents provide minimal noise output

Wouldn't be my first choice to cover up some holes, no. Possible your machine has a setting telling it you have a different mask than the Q? Do you use liners? Also, something to check for, the blue snap-in clip sometimes doesn't seat all the way at the bottom. Ive had that happen a couple of times, try reseating it, make sure it's all the way seated all the way around and clipped in good at the bottom.

I actually cut up an old t-shirt last night out of frustration from leaks using my Quattro. It was a night and day difference. I'm using an APAP setting of 18-20 so I have /lots/ of leaks generally, to the point of being overly frustrated when I'm already having issues sleeping.

If you have an old shirt, you should try it, works VERY well. I have a liner on order from padacheek now, can't wait to get it after my revelation last night.

I have tried the liners and double checking everything. I went over the mask visually to be sure there were no holes in it. Maybe I will try just covering half the vent holes for a night.

DO NOT COVER THE VENT HOLES!!!!! They are there to let CO2 escape. You will sleep better, but, you may never wake up.

Try these mask pads

The new mask didn't work either. The leak rate on sleepyhead was almost 100% I will try the Liberty mask tonight. Don't know what to do past that. My face wasn't designed for these masks.

I did put tape over half the vent holes last night and the leaks were down. I have not checked the data yet, but there was happy face on my S9 this morning.

VERY DANGEROUS...Make sure your life insurance premiums are up to date.

The number of vent holes are scientifically calculated for removing the CO2..If all the CO2 is not removed you are breathing some in with each breath. I'll bet the leaks are not coming from the vent holes. I use the Quattro and always have minimal leaks.....usually .02-.04..

TAKE THE TAPE OFF IMMEDIATELY UNLESS YOU WANT TO DIE IN YOUR SLEEP!!!

As said above, the holes are there to vent CO2, and if you can't vent enough CO2 you will suffer severe damage. The vent is there for a reason and it is DESIGNED to leak a certain amount to scrub the CO2 out of your mask.

NEVER block the vent holes on your mask!

Check this out, I had a very tiny pinhole leak in my hose, near the disconnect, I discovered by filling hose up with water, just another option to check

I did look it over really well and did not see anything holes. It is only 1.5 months old. I still do not understand why when I cover the vent holes my leaks go away. If the mask is designed to leak there I should not have a problem. I need this fixed soon.............

The only reliable thing that I have found to cut the leak rate on my Quattro with pressure up to 18 is the Pad-a-Cheek Anti Leak strap. It seems to provide extra support and does not cover any vent holes.
