Is this a sign I need to up my pressure?

Post by Meowser » Wed Feb 22, 2012 6:31 pm

For the last couple of weeks, I've been having problems staying awake at work.

I dont know why or how its happening, but its annoying. I guess my honeymoon phase is over.

I average .9-2 AHI a night and 0.0 leak. And about 7hrs of sleep a night. I wake up great in the morning but then later I'm very tired.

My pressure is set at 10.

I'm confused. Do i need to go back to my doctor? I just recently changed meds so I don't know if thats the cause. I'm on Cymbalta now for back pain.

Any advice?

Yep, see your doctor. It could easily be something else.
Unrelated stuff starts getting noticed after the apnea problems get solved.
You probably had whatever this is all along--now the doc may be able to identify it.

Meowser,
Your numbers look good and I agree it could be unrelated to cpap.

In my personal pursuit of answers in my own life...I reflect back to the past.

When I was 22 years old and in college, I started having serious difficulty staying awake in class. I actually ended up having a medical consult because it was so profound. Eventually it was tracked down (by me) to a change in dietary habits. I was getting a blood sugar slump from a large noon meal...with too many carbs.
(new deli with great sandwiches had opened across the street from campus)

We are complex beings and everything doesn't relate to cpap.

well, you mention diet changes.... i've cut out soda due to getting ready for gastric bypass in April.... I bet the lack of caffeine that I'm drinking is the culprit. Hmmm.....

Hey, could be related. Also any alcohol use? I've found it has a major impact on my sleep. Look at everything...

Good luck on your upcoming surgery,

No, I dont drink alcohol, but I did have foot surgery 3 wks ago. I've been off the pain meds for two weeks.

Its probably a combination of the caffeine not being there. Thanks Jami! I'm excited for my surgery.

Even though you say you're excited about the surgery...I'm sure there's some stress and worry involved. That can certainly effect your sleep...

I come from a "fat" family. From Grampas and Grandmas on down. In the current generation, there are several people I know who have had weight reduction surgery...and quite successfully. The techniques have really improved.
So good luck again...

Oh of course there is stress and worry.... its a very invasive surgical procedure moving body parts around and also especially now that I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel sort of speak.

Its becoming more real. I've had alot of friends very successful as well as my father. He has lost 200lbs since surgery in 2009.

Thanks again !

Might also look into Cymbalta.
A known listed side effect is Somnolence...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somnolence

From the Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duloxetine
