Apria DME and the Quattro FX mask.

Post by Bobby269 » Fri Feb 17, 2012 9:33 am

I had to switch to Apria. They are telling me that they will replace my cushions 2 times a month, My other DME would only allow me to order a new cushion every 3 months.
My insurance is Humana Gold plus HMO. Has anyone dealt with them and been told the same thing? It's been my experience that they will last
at least 3 months.

I have Apria too and they said every 3 months they would send a new mask. I think the hose was every 6 months. Twice a month does not sound right. I bought a spare mask and hose just in case.

I use Apria also and the schedule they provided me is: filter replacement = once per/mos. (package of 2), mask cushion replacement = 1/mos., mask replacement = every 3/mos., headgear replacement = every 6/mos., humidifier water tub replacement = every 6/mos., tubing replacement = every 3/mos., bipap machine = every 5 yrs. Hope this helps.

I believe most insurance companies roughly follow the Medicare guidelines.
(mostly to avoid documenting their replacement schedule, I suspect)
Nasal pillows twice a month, the last time I checked--the only thing I saw mentioned with that frequency.

It depends on your insurance...the insurance decides the replacement schedule...not Apria.

You don't have to accept as many replacements as your insurance allows. If you feel that you only need one every three months, then don't accept them monthly. Apria might love to send you the replacements automatically in order to make money--but there's no reason your insurance company should have to pay for more than you need.

But, it's always good to have at least one spare on hand, because stuff happens.

Thanks for all your prompt answers. I have sent e-mails and called Humana in regards to times for changing equipment. The funny thing is they instruct me to check with Apria. I finally found a human being working at Apria and she is sending me the replacement shedule and actually ordering what I need.
